For those wondering why an Uzbek boxer is named "Israil" (Israel), the name "Israil" in Uzbek literally translates to "Israel." Many Uzbeks have this name, but it has no connection to the modern state of Israel. In Islam, Israil refers to the prophet Jacob (known as Yaqub in Uzbek), and the name has been popular since our ancestors embraced Islam. Similarly, many Uzbeks are named Musa and Isa, which means Moses and Jesus.

Much respect to the winning Uzbek's, here's hoping they leave the amateurs for the pro ranks.

ALso the one who fought Matias, at Sueer lightweight, started out strong, but got stopped in about 8. Matias then went on to lose to the Australian. Modern Uzbeks trace their ancestry to three branches of Turkic people: the Karluks, Oguz, and Kipchaks. Originally, all of these groups were nomadic. The Karluks settled in the 7th century after embracing Islam, while the Oguz became settled later, between the 9th and 10th centuries, with many migrating to what is now Turkey. The Kipchaks adopted Islam in the 15th century and remained largely nomadic until the 20th century. However, the Kipchaks who became part of the modern Uzbek nation settled earlier due to intermixing with the Karluks and Oguzs.

Olympic boxing is such a joke. Its all about appealing to the point system, the fights are soft and boring. The technical aspect is way less impressive when you consider there is hardly any risk involved compared to REAL boxing. Of the olympic boxing specialists, very few if any at all will make it in real boxing because they would get rocked shitless into another dimension. The points appeal system they run at the olympics should quite honestly be considered another sport. It is an embarrassment to boxing and it cheapens the amount of risk, heart, and soul that goes into the peak version of the sport. This is not a shot at the uzbeks, I love some of their actual pros. Murodjon, Shakhram, etc are great pros. But olympic boxing needs a reboot fuck that disney ass sport. It is like calling softball and baseball the same sport, flag football and tackle football, etc.
