The Ritz-Carlton Montreal was the First Ritz-Carlton of Them All

Opened in 1912, the Ritz-Carlton Montreal was the first hotel in the world to bear the name Ritz-Carlton and arguably remains the iconic hotel chain's crown jewel. Housed in a historic building built by the same architectural firm as New York's Grand Central Station, the hotel offers legendary service, spectacular guest rooms, suites and residences and features a long list of unforgettable guests over its 110-year history, including Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, Sophia Loren, The Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, Oprah Winfrey, Howard Hughes and perhaps most famously, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton who were married in the Royal Suite in March 1964.

I remember being lent a jacket one summer evening when dropping by for a drink with a girl friend, spur of the moment type thing, going down Sherbrooke towards 1234 De la Montagne (c. 1978-79); it was the best disco/nightclub in the city until the early 1980s. The Piano bar, Café de Paris, Le Jardin, all great locations for those occasions that warranted easy elegance. You knew what to expect, and, were never disappointed. Even worked there for a while when at Uni.

The background music at the start of the video, up to 2:12 must be changed! The "hypno-wave" imbedded is nauseating. Unfortunately you cannot mute the sound because of the narration. After that it's fine. And thanks for the great informative documentary on this great Montreal landmark!
