The River Trent - Is It Scary?

I lock down through Sawley Lock, and onto the mighty river Trent. This being a river is prone to flooding during rainy times, but today as we have had very little rain it is almost a mill pond. The flow is negligible and my boat stretches its legs and love this deep water.

Hey Trev, what is different on Sorley lock that you are required to use a rope?

Not much, except they are sometimes used by commercial traffic, and I have to follow the same rules when on commercial waterways.

When you lived in the States did you ever hear of the the locks that are on the Fox River between Appleton, WI. and Green Bay? They were built in the 1800's for commerce. It is a stretch of 39 miles with a drop of 168 feet. They are all hand operated locks that still operate today.

I not only heard of them, I have seen them. Also a lot of the disused lock on the I&M canal, as I lived just a few miles from the I &M.
