Its time we take the BRAND NEW Rivian R1S for a first drive. Rivian has two vehicles right now. A Rivian SUV and a Rivian Truck. Personally I own and drive the Rivian Truck Ive had it for about 6 months and put about 5000 miles on it. This Rivian R1S suv is a loaner vehicle given to me for a few days by Rivian. All they need in addition is one of these supposedly soon available longer range battery packs and you couldn’t want anything more. Colours … remember, if you’re unhappy with colour choice there’s always a wrap. Then any colour or finish is possible. And if you don’t like it just peel back to original

I went with Rivian Blue for my truck and I’m very glad I did. The only other color I would have rather had was Launch Green but blue is very much my personality. On range. While you’re right that the ATs will reduce range to arond 270ish miles, that’s also in All Purpose mode. I’ve been using Conserve mode for my longer road trips and I’m getting 310-320. I’ve also found that drafting a safe distance behind a semi or RV makes a very large difference on range.

I've owned black, white, and silver vehicles for over 30 years. I bought a new vehicle last year that was on order for about 18 months. I originally ordered it in gray, but when I went to test drive one of the dealer's test units, it was a bright orange/yellow. I thought about it a few days and then changed my order to the orange/yellow. I've owned it for just over a year now and I love it. It is just a vibrant, happy color.

Love to see your perspective on Rivian vehicles; hope they do well as a company. I would love to own an R1S but it cost more than I wanted to spend. Ended up getting a Tesla Model Y long range and it works perfectly for me. I chose the Deep Blue Metallic which looks great on it, especially after changing the emblems and Tesla logos to Matte Black.

a few mistakes in the writing there like the thing about gas powered trucks not having range affected much by offroad tyres instead of road tyres. yeah it does affect just the same. And the rearmost seats you didnt mention the back seats not latching back in to the same position, they go forward a bit when you latch them from behind.meaning the mid row gets less leg room in the scenario you demonstrate. I love those motorless folding rear seats. A lot of new cars use motor to fold or raise the rear seats. Just another useless motor to fail. That and standing there waiting for the motor to fold or raise the seat is irritating.

I had my reservation set to El Cap Granite, because I saw it in person and it looks amazing (all of Rivian's colors are amazing, really). But then I had the same thought as you. You only live once. Good point about color preferences. I would go for the blue or yellow, love both those colors. I have an acid gold (yellow) Aprilia Tuareg and I have my eye on the 20th anniversary Golf R in lapiz blue metallic. Having both those colors in my garage would balance out the black and tan clothes I tend to wear! Too bad I'd have to spend more on marked up MSRP and potentially miss out on tech features due to chip avail. Also I'd hate to see the new model golf r (mk9) be so much better with regards to interior interaction decisions. They went with haptic stuff, no buttons. :( Another car on my list is Polestar 2 but their colors aren't very vibrant. Although the black performance one with the gold calipers and seat belt is one of the best styles I've seen yet. Then there's the matter of going electric or staying in a gas car. Electric motorcycles look appealing as well.

You can wrap the entire vehicle at any color that you want. so if you do it in some of the "Rivian" colors, no body will know that its actual color is white. Another bonus at this solution, is the fact that you can change your mind later. Or change a color (;

I would love to see a real world test. When you read off the manufacturers speculation we all know that's a dream sheet. Real world test on towing and range would be very informative. I would bet they don't or will not allow you to do so. They want a salesman not test results.

I found your initial R1T review and realized you live in a house I was actually looking at when it was still on the market. Nice to see you so close to home. But Also loved the honest reviews of both. I to love the look of the off-road tires but you give a good point on the street tires. I am looking at getting the R1S but it would be for my wife to commute in vs my Taco that I off road in. Something to consider that I didn't before. just wish I would have bought in during the reservation period and saved the $20K

That is a very nice blue on the rivian. I would have picked red or blue on my tesla if it wasn't a $1500/2000 option. Feels too much just for a color. Tesla's pearl white is very nice, but that red looks so good with the refreshed matte black trim.

Zack, here's a suggestion. Get your R1T wrapped. For two reasons, 1-You can choose whatever colour/style/finish you want, and 2-It will help protect the original paint from damage/scratches.stone chips. So all in all, a worthwhile thing to seriously consider... 🤔😏 😎🇬🇧
