Looking at this from the perspective of a truck owner, there are some things that would be real good to implement for a fleet/utility version: 1: Metal roof with optional roofrack. Glass is prone to breaking from sharp concentrated force blows from things like pipe or board ends. For applications where a skylight is useful, have a conventional design skylight option with a metal cover. 2: Air compressor fitting and controls under a panel on the outside of the bed. Same with the 120V receptacles. Where they are as is, they would be prone to damage from cargo and are inaccessible when the bed is full. Also, any truck mounted compressor should have the balls for some pneumatic tool use, even if it requires designing in some air tanks. Impact wrenches are an obvious example. 3: 8ft bed. If you have to ask why, you don't own a truck. Depending on crumple zone design/requirements, you could make up for the extra length penalty with a shortened nose or even a flat front. This would also improve front visibility without the need for a front camera. The loss of the frunk can be made up for with a bed box. 4: Integrated MPPT algorithm in the charger and PV direct charging port so it can charge direct from a string or paralleled strings of 5 to 12 or so standard 60 cell PV modules (around 150V to 370V). This would allow for charging out in the bush at a good few kW. 5: Cloth or real leather seat options. Naugacow and hot vehicle interiors in tradie conditions don't mix. 6: When and where possible, actual switches and buttons for common use things instead of a touchscreen. Likewise, actual gauges and indicator lights instead of a screen for the instrument cluster. Less glare at night and would net a small power savings, since daylight visible TFT LCDs need bright and thus power hungry backlights. 7: Since you would still have a center console LCD for things like the backup camera, integrated diagnostics and troubleshooting. Customer fleet mechanics will thank you.

The plastic part is not a good idea though it will be horribly scratched after the first use and that is at least what I see as the biggest downside of the Rivian. It my has a lot of things that a good offroader hast but it also has everything in plastic, carbon fiber or otherwise very weak against scratches. A problem that very likely could have been avoided if Rivian didn't offer (relatively low profile) 20 inch tyres as the only off-road tyre option. Typically 17 inch tyres are the maximum you want to have on a proper off-road vehicle. 18 or more inches easily get punctured. The alternative being 32, 35, 37 or larger inch tyres, but those are not as practical for daily use on asphalt.

It did. Nuclear powerwas displacing coal and gas everywhere in the 50s 60s and 70s. No they don't. This will be a toy with limited range and huge charge times; it will not be a practical truck some one can use for work unless you barely go anywhere, let alone go out in the sticks where there are no fancy 40 amp chargers. Even then It takes 26 hours to charge on a 40 amp circuit. So you run out of power underestimating the loss in range in mountains and freezing weather with a load. You have to hike to a phone and try and find a tow truck that can "carry"a wide 8000 lb pickup. It can't be rope towed or pushed because that will damage the electric motors; it must be fully carried. Very handy; I will just run out and get one.

@@TodayWeTry not at all I hate people who try to mislead other people. No EVs live up to their mileage claims; not Tesla no one, but this is a truck; it will be needed to carry a load and tow - it will need to drive in rough terrain and in bad weather conditions all these cut deeply into battery power and reduce range. This is a very heavy truck weighing well over 7000 lbs. so to say one is doing a review and forget to mention charging times or how badly the range will be depleted in tough conditions will mislead trusting people who may buy one and find out they have a dog for their purposes. Lying by omission is still lying and I don't like liars.

@A Z Nope. It's Zack. The term Jerry rigging explained: "Jury rigging (also called "jerry rigging" and by similar phrases) is both a noun and a verb describing makeshift repairs made with only the tools and materials at hand. Its origin lies in such efforts done on boats and ships, characteristically sail powered to begin with."

There are trade offs for both independent and solid axle. Independent is usually better protected, and no pumpkin to hit. But you give up a lot of articulation.
