Kelly Racer has won a new follower, I've been watching this channel for a while and found it quite interesting . Todd gives a very good commentary into the way things are done which can be understood in layman terms. These guys are doing things out of the norm and showing the general public how they go about their way of life, their passion and dedication to a sport they love,Kelly racing is also setting a standard by allowing the viewers to have an insight into how they are adapting from the past to the future. Look forward to the other episodes. Great work

Great insights here. Amazing the amount of design and unique fabrication that goes on in each team. The significant message shone through and without wanting to detract from the amazing skills and talents on display: what a ridiculously, pointless waste of time, effort and money is expended designing stuff that NOBODY watching the racing from ANY aspect could possibly appreciate. Therefore why oh why doesn't the category mandate a single spec and share IP for water pumps, oil pumps, sumps, body to chassis mounting pieces, suspension arms, hubs the list goes on and on. Surely there's a way this could be shared at a fraction of the current cost. No wonder the sport is strangling itself in cost. So much duplication between teams running the same car brands of non-competition altering componentry must surely stifle the actual competition changing stuff to some degree.

After you guys have a fully assembles working Ford spec engine. Is it possible for you guys to explain what took so long to get the Nissan engine up to speed and why it was so difficult. I.e unsuitable rules for OHC engines or was it other factors?
@dinosshed5 жыл бұрын
Optimising the intake runners and getting it to fit under the bonnet wasn't easy. The overhead cam design made the port height tall in comparison to a pushrod setup. E85 was new to the category when the nissan engine was developed which calls for extra fuel delivery over non ethanol fuels. Completely different engine from what everyone had spent 30 years development on, stone brothers had similar issues with the Mercedes Benz, GRM/Volvo had it on the edge of destruction from word go.
@The_Evil_Monkey_935 жыл бұрын
@@dinosshed I see, I also heard that from the beginning that Supercars gave Nissan a bore x stroke size to use which wasn't very favourable to a 4 valve engine added to the semi low compression ratio of 10:1made the power issues worse. I also heard that Volvo got to choose their own bore x stroke as well got a waiver to use a flatplane crankshaft. Was there anything in the rules that Supercars could done differently to help the struggling nissan and merc early on?
@dinosshed5 жыл бұрын
@@The_Evil_Monkey_93 In a parity formula it's not easy to play catchup when specs are set in stone. When merc took a look at the existing pushrod engine and its basis of running 650hp from a small block 5.0 they couldn't get their head around the magic. Supercars management should have mandated an electronic throttle control to limit the power and power curve as soon as they opened the door to the other brands. That way, the teams could run brand specific engines with forced induction, different capacity and configuration. Would have been far less expense as crate engines could have been used. That's what they should have done and still do moving forward.
