Good video Ryan. Did you look at flights?. I know flights from Samui to BKK are expensive but from Surat Thani they are cheapish..

Been on that 3rd class train but if you sit in the first car, you get a great breeze. Otherwise, I find it stifling. You're a real adventurer.
