Just saw a video of a soldier liberating a town and finding his mother there. I cannot fathom the feeling of either of them in that moment, but the warmth of it could be felt through the camera and language barrier as they silently hugged. Ukrainians are fighting for their home, not just their own freedom but the freedom of their brothers, mothers, fathers, and neighbors. Slava Ukraini you glorious bastards, give the Russians hell!

Without wanting to take away anything from the brave Ukrainian fighters and those from all over the world in this conflict against a Russian aggressor, I think it's nice to know that this has been a US proxy war and continues to be with most NATO states knee-deep involved in it. Whatever Ukraine wants and thinks they'll need the most, that's not how it works. We're presenting the menu, they check off what's on it and get it delivered via an efficiently functioning supply network through western and eastern Europe. And then they get told exactly what to do with it, where and when and as long as they can kick some Russian ass, they're fine with how that goes. So I, as a European, not only thank the Ukrainian warriors for carrying out a fight for our freedom before the Ruzzkies approached at our doorstep. I also thank the United States of America, for their absolute Behemoth of a military-industrial complex and their tactical overview of the situation that comes from a lot more expertise in that field than anyone in the world could bring to the table at this point. The US and maybe Germany are the only ones keeping Europe on a leash, especially the Eastern European states and keeping them from smashing into fully-blown WW3 which would mean heavy losses of life if not total destruction on either side would it come to this. It can and may still come to this but I think that as of now, everyone and their mum in Russia know that their country, population and everything remotely attached to their legacy will get wiped from the face of the earth forever by then. They're not willing to pay this price just to bolster the ego of a single idiot, and of that I am sure. They'll probably have that little KGB-bitch killed before we do.

The thing that always strikes me most about the videos of villagers greeting their Ukrainian liberators is that there are ALMOST NEVER anyone under 55-60 in those videos. I hope that's because they left before the Russians arrived. But that kind of hopeful thinking doesn't usually pan out when dealing with the Russian military.

For the most part, the young men are off fighting and the young women and children fled before the Russians arrived. When the war is over, many of the young men, young women and children will return to their homes or at least return to Ukraine or remain in Ukraine depending on where they are today. This war has galvanized what it means to be Ukrainian more than any public relations campaign ever could. These people will return to rebuild the country because, now that the Russians have tried to destroy it, the Ukrainians love their country more than ever. Putin has caused the very separation of Russia and Ukraine that he hoped to prevent. His sick worldview fails to realize that a free, independent, and democratic Ukraine is no threat to the Russian state. Even a Ukraine in the EU and NATO is no threat to Russia. It is a threat to Putin and his desire to rule Russia with an iron fist. But Ukraine and NATO would never preemptively attack Russia. Things are going to improve for Ukraine from here. Russia is going to suffer until Putin is gone. There's no quick fixes for what is wrong with Russia. Putin has cost Russia decades of economic progress. This generation of Russian youth is fleeing the country. One could hardly have dreamed up a better way to hurt Russia than what Putin has done. I do hope his legacy is to be remembered by Russians as an evil despot who killed many Russians for no gain.

The Kherson trap was splendid, and a perfect way of using Ukraine's numerical superiority thanks to mobilisation : since wild Himars appeared, Kherson was the obvious place to attack : cut 3 bridges and the entire area is surrounded. Anyone looking at the map could see that, they talked a lot about it, to encourage Russians to move there, and indeed they attacked, slowly. Only to throw a surprise second punch in the lightly defended north. I didn't expect them to have enough men to strike on 2 fronts but since they have been mobilising for 6 months (= the first mobilised wave is now trained to western infantry standards) while Russia has lacked manpower the entire time, in hindsight it all makes sense.

Tbf. There were still some questions why they wanted to go on the offensive there, since it was just a war of attrition for the Russians there (because they were basically out of supplies). So in hindsight that was correct. The troops are now pretty much stuck there and could not be relocated and are barely supplied.

To be fair, that’s highly dependent on the quality of command and troop training. These men seemed to have been trained in NATO doctrine, while in other sectors of the front, less competent troops are often unsuccessful in attempts to dislodge Russian troops. Regardless though, Ukraine has shown itself to be _capable_ of large offensive actions, and has thrown the orcs completely off balance.

The Russians first advanced with the speed and power expected, in the beginning, we were all sure of a Ukrainian defeat, after all, decades of Russian modernization and state propaganda assured us of Russian strength and prowess. But the Ukrainians held the line, in a move which brings a tear to my American eye (for this war mirrors in some aspects our own Revolutionary War) they held on against a modern onslaught, and with support managed to not only plan an offensive, but also succeed pushing the Russians back to their own border. Though such a feat came from blood and steel when the war is over and the dead are counted there is no doubt that the price would be felt for years to come. if you were certain of their defeat you have been living with your head under a rock, Ukraine has been at war with Russia since 2014 and has been preparing accordingly. Excellent video as always but you know what the very best part was? It was the end and seeing the pure joy of Ukrainian citizens as they greeted their liberating brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters in the streets. It’s not over, unfortunately it won’t be for a very long time, but it’s impossible to not root for Ukraine and it’s people as they block the schoolyard bullies left hook to land a picture perfect uppercut to knock out some fascist teeth.

For Phase II of the counteroffensive to liberate Crimea I’m interested to see if that will be the time that Ukraine is trained on NATO aircraft and equipment, and if so what will be given to help them liberate Crimea, because there is certain equipment that I’d be like “no way the US would give them that” but then again the US has given far worse to countries that really shouldn’t have gotten the equipment they did, I mean the US gave highly advanced equipment to Saudi Arabia of all places

It takes a long time to train people to fly aircraft repair the same. There was something in the last ridiculously titled omnibus bill, I believe, about giving the Ukrainians Vipers... but again, long process. Even if they rotate skilled pilots off the front and put a rush on their training, that's still a year or more to get BMQ. Don't expect to see those any time soon, even if the process started immediately. Hell I'm shocked they managed to jury rig HARMs up to various MiGs.

@@kalashnikovdevil ukrainians had been doing VR training on NATO aircraft for nearly as long as this war has been going on, doing training that is very similar to how US pilots train using VR and flight simulators, you understand these are not pilots who are fresh out of the academy and already understand the basics and complexities of flying, their training would simply be learning to operate the features of these new aircraft, a process it takes US pilots maybe 4-5 months because they are not teaching these pilots how to fly a jet because these pilots are already all to familiar with how to fly a jet, only training these pilots would do is specialized training on how to operate systems on whatever aircraft we give them such as how to use a targeting pod (and stretching it a bit) how to use an F35 STVOL capability or how to use its other features

What a lot of people don't remember, even among those who know about Bagration, is that the destruction of Army Group Center wasn't the end of it. Whereas Patton's army that was supposed to cross at Dover was entirely fictional, Soviet Kavalry-Mechanised and armored formations built up, and let be observed in front of german lines at Lwów and in Romania, were, in fact very real. Counting on the inevitable need for the germans to redeploy their mobile forces (their best equipped, fastest and hardest hitting divisions) from other fronts where they have managed to check Soviet advances in the past. This resulted in them nearly reaching Warsaw, and mauling AG North Ukraine terribly, along with just absolutely vaporizing Axis lines in Romania in less than 3 days' time. Even within the latter, their prediction came 100% true as (quite literally) the only 2 (TWO) divisional formations between 2 german and 2 romanian armies that had managed to retain any cohesion after a day of fighting were the 13th PanzerGren and 1st Greater Romania Armored divisions. I don't know if the current events will unfold in exactly the same manner, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

This is much more Bulge than Bagration. Hey attention to the losses and take a look at the equipment on the Nazi side. They’re using civilian transportation because they don’t have military trucks. they have cobble together mishmash uniforms with missing pieces of equipment because they just don’t have enough. They had to make their advances with very little artillery and absolutely no air cover because I just don’t have any. Ponomareva who is a Kiev propagandist announced that 10,000 Ukrainians died during the past two weeks of offensives. The kill ratio is five to one in the south and it was something like 20 to one in the north favoring the Russians. A not insubstantial amount of territory was taken quickly but the great bulk of enemy manpower and equipment escaped to form an even tougher defense of line. This offensive is the result of have a year of scouring the globe for weapons and this is the best they can do. Russian advances continue in the south and in the center unabated. The Russians have not been scared into calling for mobilization. Ukraine just lost 60,000 minimum of its best men and untold amounts of irreplaceable equipment to take areas of no real importance to Russian war aims. They won the battle but it doesn’t seem to have actually done anything.

I would say it's best spoken in a dry tone, but text cannot have a tone. What can you do? Anyhow, the loss of Izyum makes the taking of Donbas much more difficult. It would've been a staging ground from where to launch a pincer move to isolate the Ukrainian East Group. That it wasn't done back in, say, May or June, when Ukraine was perhaps at its most vulnerable since the beginning of the invasion, boggles the mind. I can only attribute the failure to the ineptitude of Russian command. Now Russia can choose to either go for a very costly full frontal assault, or play defense in a frankly unrealistic hope that Ukraine exhausts itself first and enters negotiations where they'll cede Donbas. Ukraine's not showing any sings of slowing down, has troops being trained and advised by NATO-trained personnel, and is receiving aid, supplies, ammo, equipment, and hardware from the West, whereas Russia... -possesses a particularly pernacious problem- that leads to issuing men bullet proof vests made of foam, deploying tanks whose turret doesn't turn, and giving sailors a one-week tank training course. Russia has ostensibly millions of artillery rounds, too, yet has begun to source more from North Korea. Ukraine has access to Western intel and hardware, the latter of which includes the game-changing GMLRS rockets that have been destroying Russian supply depots, command posts, and barracks every day and night for many months now. That actually explains why Russia is reaching out to North Korea for ammo... Ukraine's confident in their victory, which they'd hardly be if the Kharkiv offensive was a failure. Videos and photos of countless abandoned vehicles suggests the Russian pre-planned orderly retreat might've not been as pre-planned and orderly as the Russian MoD states. While the majority of the vehicles consist of armored fighting vehicles, some are much more valuable and advanced, a few of which even the Pentagon are coveting to get their hands on. Other videos show civilians greeting the Ukrainian soldiers in tears of joy and offering them hugs and food in gratitude. Could there be any better reward for a Ukrainian soldier than to bring happiness to their own people? So whatever the number of casualties are, could it be it was worth it? I mean, what are the Russians fighting for? How many of them are willing to die for before they'll decide to call it quits? By most accounts, the Ukrainian offensive was a success and has boosted Ukrainian morale while degrading Russia's. Even the Russian MoD has finally admitted that the offensive was a defeat, perhaps due in part to pressure from livid ultra-nationalists who saw the reality that the Russian military command was closing its eyes from. Just thoguth, but it's not a good look when both the doves and hawks are pecking at the same target. Suffice to say, a Russian victory through defense at the moment seems unlikely. My prediction is that Ukrainian artillery will keep landing on their laps and any Russian assault will lack the manpower to make any signficant and lasting gains. it will be months, perhaps, until attrition will wear down the resistance-assuming Ukraine doesn't flank the frontline and hit the Russians form the behind. I would keep a close eye on Kherson, though. The Russian there are undersupplied, under constant attack, and burning through their ammo faster than it can be replenished. Eventually, they''ll have to either surrender or withdraw, if they're not killed in battle. A breakout assault would be tantamount to mass suicide. I cannot imagine how the situation can turn around; Russia is looking at a loss in Kherson. By the way... if Donbas was the objective all along, then what's the point of having 20 000+ troops in Kherson?

Two things struck me about this offensive. First was that once again it was demonstrated just how hollow and badly led the Russian military is. The second is just how bad Russia's intelligence gathering is. For a country with its own satellite and aerial reconnaissance capabilities, along with signal intercepts and likely human intelligence, to get totally blindsided by this is a demonstration of extreme incompetence. This is not to take away anything from the Ukrainians. They've more than demonstrated their skill and bravery, but, as one Ukrainian soldier said early in the war, "We are lucky they are so stupid."

It seems there's a currently a race going on between Ukrainian and Russian forces to southern front between Donetsk and Zaprorizhia. This would explain the russian missle strikes against thermal power plants in the Kharkiv oblast. Those powerplants are what allow the trains in the region to function. If Ukraine does launch their next offensive in this regain they would be pushing for the cities of Melitpol, Berdiansk, and Mariupol. Success there would bring their artillery assets in range of the Kerch bridge, the lifeline of the Russian forces in crimea.

If I was a betting man, Melitopol would be the city I want. It would cut Russias southern front in two while threatening Kerch as you said. But I think we are a ways off Ukraine attempting that move.
