I joined sometime between 2009-2011. I don't really play that much anymore, but I do remember what the site looked like back then and having a lot of fun with it. We have none of the hard drives from that time as the computers that my family owned were either sold or thrown away, so any versions that we had are long gone.

I guess David Baszucki didn't keep old versions because if they didn't have that much money to invest in servers back then, storing older versions would just be a waste of space for them, but why would he say it would be too complex for them to deploy the clients when they are a pretty huge company and could deploy a specific server for the clients to stay on as an archive.

I think one criticism that I will give the group is their lack of willingness to spend any money on potentially finding old clients. There's been two times mentioned where if they had crowdfunded or paid for something, they may have had old clients found. There's many many people who have spent thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to retrieve old, lost media, and with the urgency provided in this case, they are going to need to suck up the fact that money's gonna have to be spent to obtain old versions. Even the expensive task of data recovery. They GOTTA be doing whatever it takes to find old versions.

Remember to always have things backed up, and never wipe a computer without a 100% backup because that’s a very good way to create lost media. If a hard drive which contained 2006 roblox would be 17 years old, it could work if it was a good one, on my old PC which was used from 2010 to 2023 (yes i just could not get a new one) the hard drive lasted 13 years without any problems before dying off somewhere in the summer of 2023, and it was possible to recover it with some work. i do think if to just believe and spend some money on stuff, the chance of us finding the 2006 client would get bigger atleast by some amount

The first time I played roblox, was when guests existed. I was playing a game called “survive or fight a giant” (or at I think it was called that??) it was a game where you had a laser gun and you attacked the giant if you were a survivor. I remember playing as a guest and getting angry on a desert map(?) when I was the giant. I think that game is lost to time now, I wish I could go back to those times.

I do have an old laptop, my siblings used to play roblox, i dont doubt it dates lower than 2006, i think i could recover atleast a few files from 2006 or 2007 however im not certain, before this video i did manage to USB boot into linux lite and confirmed the laptop works, i had to delete an old broken windows 10 version, ill make an update when i get home from a vacation edit: anything under 2018 will likely not happen unless i find a charger to another laptop i have

I think I joined Roblox in 2009 and played until 2012 or 2013. Haven't played since although I know my account is still sitting there dormant as I've seen it's profile as recently as 2 years ago.
