Hi Shane. Please don’t despair. I just prayed for you, your family and your dad. I prayed that you and your family feel hope and be able to shake away the feelings of shock that you may feel. I pray that your father heal both in body and spirit to come around to see that life is still fighting for and his family still worth living for. I pray that you and your entire family pass this period of time to a calm and hopeful place. But most importantly, don’t feel guilty for others’ actions. It is difficult especially when it comes to parents. Do your best in your duties as a son. But the rest is others’ responsibilities not yours. What your father did was not your fault nor your family’s. He is just in a difficult place and in his own mind sees no hope. Have compassion towards him despite his action. Sometimes parents need help too. Help him but don’t feel guilty for him. May all of you find the love and strength in each other. Everybody makes mistakes. Be forgiving and compassionate but don’t let despair consume your heart because there is no use for despair or guilt in your life at all, if you think about it. These negative thoughts keep you from moving forward towards a better place or fix the causes of such pain and guilt. May you be blessed. May all things holy rush to provide you aid and comfort you and your family.

Fun fact about Robocop. The originally written script was rejected due to the fact that the movie was so violent, they gave it an NC-17 rating which meant the movie would only be shown in the night time if at all when adults could be see it. This in turn would mean that the movie would never garner the real money it was meant to make. A lot of the violent content originally scripted for the screenplay had to be removed (and the movie edited for runtime) to give it an "R" rating so that it could actually be viewed in theatres. That in turn was the only reason it was ever allowed in theatres. Of course, when it came to releasing the movie on DVD and Blu-Ray years later, they could resurrect a lot of the content that was cut from the theatrical release and include it for an "Unrated" version the movie viewers wouldn't be able to see originally in theatres.
@ehenyor Жыл бұрын
Nice summary, but it sounds like the original cut, not the original script, was rejected. in other words, they shot it all, but only made it available in the unrated (x-rated?) version. It wasn't all that much, though. A woman without a top and then an animatronic shot of Murphy during his death scene.

Robocop 87 is a masterpiece. Even after all these years it’s a top 5 science fiction film. But how do you follow it up? What story do you tell? What direction do you go? I think the 2014 reboot (which I believe gets an unfair shake because it’s compared to the original without allowing it to stand on its own) had the answer. While Murphy’s humanity and soul was dormant in the original, Murphy was aware from the very beginning in the remake. That contrast really worked. But as far as a sequel. I think that’s asking the impossible. What if the best thing to do with Murphy is to leave him alone?

Thank you for the insight into the "what could have been": looking at the creative process that made 1987 feature what it is (along with sequels and the 2014 episode) I wasn't aware of a short-lived TV Series. I like the subtitle "The Last Stand", as there were more stories to tell - look at the 007 movies for example - overcoming enemies, allows an ongoing process where different ideas came about, too bad studio executives, script writers and box office results et al varied through different years. I think 2014 feature is a decent attempt to regain interest to a cult/iconic movie - one that more than deserves a sequel - let's hope it happens.

I think it's also because we just have the potential not the finished product, a script if just the first part of the film making process.

The first robocop is a real movie it feels so deep and detailed . The reboot seems like a lame TV episode fever dream

How did people grow up with films like this only to now somehow see Gentrification as a good thing? It is wonderful if you're rich and can pay 2000 a month rent vs the 450 - 900 it was before, But now toes people cannot pay , NYC has 4 5 people living in 1 room due to Gentrification who do have money and are not poor , so it is starting to hurt everyone.

Why don’t they make a movie with Murphy’s brains in the Robocain armor where he needs to fight an army of ED209’s and criminals using Cobra assault canons .

There were some cheap Robocop knockoffs that were available to watch on Prime, such as Prime Directive, etc. They weren't completely horrible though not good enough for me to remember a blessed thing about them.

This is huge challenge for any filmmaker/filmmakers to tackle. The original is such an excellent one off, and it has one of the all-time great endings, and last lines, that to try and continue the story feels strange. Robocop 2 is probably closest to the spirit of the first one, but the others get further away from it. Trying to wrap my mind around concepts for a possible sequel and tick all the boxes of what made the original a success is real tough problem to solve in terms of movie making. When it really comes down to it, I don't really know if "I would buy that for a dollar!"

I told Frank Miller in December of 2021 that I know there were complications back then. Now a small movie company known as StudioCanal & 20th Century FOX does currently own both Movie Franchises. So it does look like it can be Legally possible to make something like that...even though it may cost 150 million to make in this day & age.

Robocop was epic in 87, still remember seeing it then.

Frank Miller's RoboCop Vs Terminator could be a sequel to RoboCop and you wouldn't need Arnie or Peter Weller. The three terminators sent back to protect RoboCop is a dark hair guy a blonde woman and a ten year old boy. Frank Miller understands the concept of a infiltration unit better James Cameron. As Frank Miller writes "John Connor Leads a worldwide resistance" that means people from all over the world and the terminators must reflect the different nationalities of the resistance in order to blend in and infiltrate the resistance

Didn't they also make a Sequel Trilogy taking place after the Third Film starting with Robocop Meltdown, about Robocop Looking for his son or something and at the same time his Boss Turning in to a Robocop as well, but he was called Cable or something? I don't know it was a real long time ago
