I really like this idea but I would be insanely paranoid about carrying/holding a doll on my shoulder and someone running past and stealing it. Though people with handbags could have them sit in there like they would with small dogs P: I know this will really take off once it's all sorted but imagine having a smaller/chibi version that hangs onto your bag strap. Also will you be able to customize their appearance if there's motors inside? That would give it an incredibly personalized touch if people could design their smart doll's eyes, hair and maybe even ears for fairies/elfs and male dolls would be a cool idea too, to give your brand/idea some variety :D

Not even close. You need a cpu with 64 cores, and a powerful small sized gpu, at least, and a hell of a programmer that has figured out how language and reasoning works, we have yet none of those three things.

Ryuuken24 We are not so far, is not just about software as most people may think, the key is a hell of hardware as IBM has said, indeed we need 48000 cores, 3000 racks, 50 to 100Tb of memory and 15Tb of RAM, that was the Watson power in 2011, but at least for human size robots/ dolls (not 60cms dolls) this computing power will be available in 2020, We already have laptops with 1Tb of RAM memory on the market (expensive but true). But well, to watch a big intelligence inside those 60cms BJD containers wait to 2030. Not necessary to say that in that moment the human size androids, they'll be matching and surpassing the human brain if the Moore's Law continues at the current rate.

Carlos Herrera I know what you're talking about, I'm just optimistic about the hardware not being too incredible to exist. With a quantum cpu, we might be able to even skip the amount of cpu cores needed. The Honda robot is able to solve puzzles, and the hardware inside isn't that amazing to begin with, so we do need amazing skilled programmers, even if the hardware is limited. Until then, it's all up in the clouds. Have a good one!

Gumi K The thing you're forgetting is that some people simply can't be saved, that's how mental disorders work, people with social anxiety disorder can't be "cured" of their disorder 100%, and over half of the people who do recieve some help for it, tend to go back to the way things were, Hikikomori's usually suffer from deep depression and a hate for the common-man as they feel judged and laughed at behind their back, giving these people an alternative is nothing but a positive in my book, it's their life, shouldn't they be able to choose how to live according to their own choices and personal happiness?

Lynz C But usually there's something secondary there holding that person down, wether it's a mental disorder/syndrome or a consequence of bullying or social ostracization or something else that's caused a person to think or feel it's neccesary to keep themselves locked out, it's impossible for there to NOT be a problem involved as humans are SOCIAL animals, first and foremost, we're created to interract with one and another, that's how evolution works, there are people who are born without social interraction skills, and thats classified as having a mental disorder. I'm not saying you HAVE to interract with people, that's exactly why i think something like Danny Choo's andoroid here is a wonderful example of something that could benefit people who aren't happy about being amongst other people. You are you, and that is all that matters.
