@@bgzack problem with the roaches as they had no idea what Dynamics were and screamed every song. Their satire and sarcasm were great many of their songs really suffered because they lacked for whatever reason the Dynamics that would have put much more musical nuance into their recordings. probably the exception to that would be their we three kings Christmas album which couldn't be better if anyone tried.

Wow. What a tough audience. What a tough compere! Feels like it was a crazy mix of confused folks, disinterested folks and folks who really appreciated what they were seeing and hearing. Wow. Well done Roches. Terre at 13 mins (Good luck getting a ticket to see us!) Spot on. . . a year or so later folks had caught on to just how good The Roches were.
@holdon4992 Жыл бұрын
I think the audience was trying to figure it out. The intro was perfect but when they launched into religion and then politics, well, always a tricky thing especially if an audience is unfamiliar and/or uncomfortable with certain aspects of these. IMHO this is why the audience was restrained.

Remember the competition - changing times and extremely unpredictable trends in music - find the year their albums came out and what they were up against - glad they stayed together and made so many records! As Maggie said in an interview about their plans (3rd or 4th LP?), "We just want to stay in business."

When I first heard it at their Fort Worth concert in 1993-ish, the a capella part wasn't what struck me, since I had participated in numerous a capella Renditions of that song, but the fact that a trio could do it without there being any sense of the missing 4th vocal part 🤩

How in hell I've heard about The Roches before. It's not like I'm listening to top 10 radio... Want to sing Handel's Messiah? You need a 200 signers, 4 voices choir. "We're three. we'll manage." Or the female version of "hold my beer".
