As some (pretty controversial) personnality said on KZbin, having a baby makes you realize that you're not any more the most important person in your life, and it's not a bad thing, it's a relief! Because now there's less doubt, you'll always know why you're doing the things you do. You'll do great, and my daughter joins me in saying you'll be a great father I'm sure Chris

Man, that moment holding my baby girl for the first time. I've never been so proud of anything or anyone. There's nothing in this world, as a man, that compares to holding your newborn baby.

Everything he said is 100% true. You really have no idea until it happens. When I first held my first son, I felt that for sure. Everything just changes in that short amount of time somehow. It's literally like a switch in your body flips, and it's go time, and that switch, well it arcs inside and welds itself into the on position 😂 because it never turns off. My oldest son is 9 now, youngest 3, Everything revolves around them in my mind still. It's honestly the best thing that can happen to a person

My wife and I were 15 when our oldest was born. I was a friggin mess/wreck. Scared out of my mind so bad that if I thought about it for even a second, it would consume me in so much anxiety that it became a regular daily occurrence that I'd get nauseous &/or vomit. I thought I just ruined my future, Queen's future (we've known each other since we were 8. We used to build sand castles, hang out, joke around, talk everyday religiously at recess. We referred to each other as King and Queen of ourlil sand castles, and as we got older it got shortened to just King & Queen.), I felt like I disappointed our mothers, and like I ruined both of our families' lives, etc. I'd have nightmares of being a father and being overwhelmed, not knowing what to do, watching our friends enjoy the rest of their "childhood" while Queen and I watched-umable to participate. I feared She'd resent me for it. I feared failing as a father worse than I felt my father failed my mother and my siblings & I. I feared realizing that this is my fault, and not knowing how to do/what to do. It was also a 50/50 percent chance I'd wake up screaming, but the cold sweats were a definite. I had 2 older brothers that became teen fathers as well, when I was a kid. They tried to comfort me and let me know that they'd help me, my older sisters and younger sisters said so as well, my mom and ma'dear did so as well. (my mother in law has been a second mother to me for as long as I've known her daughter. So I never have, don't, nor will I ever call her "mother in/by law", I call her Ma'dear). But that actually made me feel worse, like everyone's life is about to change and become more complicated bcz of me. Day after day, week after week, month after month til the night my son was born, I'd count down the days I had to be a regular teenager left. The early morning of September 17th 2010 when my mom came in my room to wake me and tell me Ma'dear had just called and my son was here, I could've dropped dead. She called my older brothers over, she told my older sisters to watch out for our lil brothers and sisters, everyone is trying to comfort me bcz they know I'm scared ish-less. The closer we got to the hospital, the more nauseous I got. Ma and my brothers were still tryna comfort me when we got off the elevator on the floor Queen, Ma'dear, and my newborn son were on, and I'm fighting my dinner down with everything I can. When ma and Ma'dear had me sit in the recliner by Queen's bed and were showing me how to hold him, I was halfway listening but praying to God that I wouldn't vomit on my son. He was crying and I remember shaking, hands trembling and I'm doing my best not to show it. I hold my son like they showed me and within a couple of minutes he was sound asleep in my arms. No bigger than the space between my elbow to my wrist. Not afraid of me, not nervous about me, and in total trust and peace. I still can't recall exactly when I stopped feeling nauseous, it happened during me rocking my son to sleep. But holding him and seeing him in so much peace...idk how to fully explain it. Best way I can, is the world changed for me/to me. I wanted to make sure he was always in as much peace and comfort as he was in that moment in my arms. I wanted him to always feel he could trust me. Tbh, as much as I wanted to prove myself to my family as far as being a responsible father and make sure they never would get upset with me feeling/thinking, "I'm tired. If Michael hadn't got Chrissy pregnant then I wouldn't have to be babysitting until he (gets home from school/back from work/etc)." I wanted to make my son proud of me twice as much. I'd actually find myself looking at the clock waiting for the school day to end and one of my older siblings to pick me up, take me home so I could get a snack before I left to work whichever odd job I was working that day (cutting grass and hedges, washing cars, cleaning in my barber's shop, walking dogs, sitting with & taking care of someone elderly for a couple hrs for someone), and see my Prince, lbvs. The excitement on his face and in his eyes when I'd come in and he saw me...(damn..it's been over 13 years and it still chokes me up, lbvs). So many days I felt so tired, and seeing his big smile that would push his cheeks up to the point his eyes would close a bit, seeing the life ,excitement, and love in his eyes, seeing him so happy to see me, seeing him try to jump out of the lap of whomever was holding him although he didn't even know how walk yet, lol. Hearing the lil screech he used to do when he was really happy and excited. Seeing when someone said something about him being so happy to see me and he knew they were talking about him & he'd look up at me, blush, and put his face between my neck and shoulder on my best to hide it. It was all I needed to keep going. I'd think of it off and on for however many hrs it took for me to do what I was doing those afternoons to make some money. I could deal with the sweat, the fatigue, the heat, and anything else off of that thought alone. Bcz around anyone else I was regular old Clark Kent, but to him I was Superman. I don't know who I'd be or where I'd be or what I'd be doing now if he wasn't born when his mother and I were teenagers. This year I turn 30, and in retrospect I'd do it all over again. The father I am to him, his lil brother and sister, the husband I am to their mother, the man I am now is the result and product of him. He didn't make me grow. He went a step further by making me want to. I graduated high school for him alone, I matured and fixed my mistakes and flaws for him, I went to college for him and his lil brother. I'd likely still be with their mother but I wouldn't be who I am & the way I am. I've thought about making him and his lil brother and sister proud of me being their father, more than I have ever thought of them making me proud. Being a father is the greatest thing I've ever been. The greatest lesson I've learned from being their father is I didn't have to be perfect, as long as I tried my best I couldn't fail in their eyes. For every mistake I've made that I would feel so bad about, they never noticed. They knew I loved them and that meant more to them than anything. Another lesson I learned was it doesn't matter if your father was with you totally, partially, or even none at all. They still teach you how to be a good father. If you felt loved and happy by things they did for you and with you, then do those things with your son &/or daughter. Everything they did that hurt you, remember that and do the opposite. That actually helped me reconcile with my father. I learned to take time and cherish it. I learned that children watch twice as much as they listen so the best way to teach them is by being a man of your word and fulfill that word through action(s). I learned that being a father isn't a privilege but an honor. The best teacher is life. You are divinely blessed if God found you worthy to be a father and give you a child. I learned to trust myself more. I learned as long as you keep trying- you can never truly fail. And you can only truly fail, when you stop trying. I learned patience, hard work, persevering, character, and much more.
