What I loved about this scene (and this movie) was how shocking the F-18 pilot dropping the bomb the second before being told to abort was back then. Before this, the heroes and the good guys did NOT make stupid mistakes. The good guys were always either a well-oiled machine or the hero(es) would stop the bureaucrats before the shit hit the fan. Good guys didn't fuck up at the last second after the day was already saved. It was unthinkable.
