Randy i love you to Death I've always been a supporter of almost everything you stand on. I Live in Roger's , AR. Fish Tablerock mostly. Grew up on Beaver . Most people i know cannot afford Megabass Products. Im fortunate enough to have a job i have decent tackle , but i cannot afford all Mega bass Rods etc.

@@bill-e6i i appreciate that, i own mostly custom lews , Phenix , loomis. Megabass just cost a League above.

He’s not saying you have to have Megabass Rods , he’s only showing you what he uses , pay more attention to action and length of the rod and lure weight for the size weighted jig on the rods lure weight in ounces

Good tips Randy. I’ve found my sweet spot for jigs is a 7’3” MF rod with a 8.6.1 reel. I caught more jig largies and smallies this past spring summer and fall then ever before.

good video, man i love jig fishing i have a heavy action 7'6 okuma scott martin rod from ten years back that i love. i must say my favorite jig now is your brown/purple living rubber jig. back in the late 80's i used a red abu 5000 with a 6" zebco/quantum heavy action rod and 30# stren and a gary klien weapon jig with the barb on the outside . topped it off with uncle josh big spring lizard or a #11 frog

My favorite setup is a 7’9” dobyns fury medium heavy with 20 lb fluorocarbon 7.3:1 Blaukat old school jigs dipped in either JJ‘s magic or sprayed with bang the rod is really meant for swim baits, glidebaits and umbrella rigs has a lot of backbone almost never lose a fish on it and good price too

My confidence in jigs was shaky until this past February. As far as pitching a football jig it'll pick up grass on it's head if grass is present. I use an 8 ft heavy action rod. The extra length makes it easier to pitch farther from a float tube.

I am 57 years old and been fishing jigsaw most of my life. I have had several really good rods for the bulk of jig presentations. The Kistler Helium/Z bone (same blank)in a 7’3 heavy medium heavy extra fast and Shimano Expride B 7’2” Heavy fast are the two I use for all jigs except swim jigs. Those are fished on my Kistler Helium 7’3” MH fast. I have an Orocchi Brailist and it’s poorly balanced and too heavy. If ya want to save a little money the Dobyns Kaden KD744c is really an under rated jig rod. 7’4” Heavy fast with a soft tip. Point being, you don’t have to spend Megabass money to get a great jig rod. You can catch Kistler Heliums on sale OFTEN at $199 to $249 and to me, any thing higher than those and the Expride B is a diminishing return on investment

Thanks, good to know. I'm on the finess end of the jig spectrum. 10 lb. braid to Kast King tripolymer 10lb. 1/4 to 3/8 jig. Buma skirt and real hog trailer. Works well for me, small or large!///bill

Back in the day when I got on to the Jig & if they didn’t bite the seasonal baits. Immediately I picked up the Jig. Enough said

I use a lews hank Parker mh rod ($50) and an old old green shimano curado b. Dunno why it works so well for me but it does.

Personally I like something a little shorter for jig fishing. My favorite is 7'4" Heavy. 711 is too long for me, 7ft is too short, but otherwise great video Randy!

I’ll do everyone a favor and tell you don’t buy the straight floro lines, get the 17lb P-line CXX Co-Polymer for all of you’re on the bottom fishing dragging or stroking baits. I start using that but, got caught up in the whole Floro is the best bullshit and fish all the best ones including the Tatsu and went back to the P-Line it’s the strongest line I’ve found besides Braid and it’s way more abrasion resistance than any Floro you can buy and it’s cheap like Big game and you get a lot of line for very little money. More money doesn’t always mean better, just trust me.
