An intimate glimpse of the first visible group of transgender men in the Pacific Islands - the Rogers of Samoa.
From the loneliness of family rejection and homelessness to the camaraderie of church, cooking, and dance, their stories reveal the challenges and possibilities of life in an island society rooted in culture and tradition.
Dedicated in loving memory to To'oto'oali'i (Roger) Stanley (1976-2018)

Kalofa e. I used to hate these people whenever I see them behaving like this (it's due to being selfish, prejudiced and and not trying to understand others). But the more I hear them speak about their feelings and how they were treated, even by their own families because of what they are. I tend to understand that God make each and everyone of us differently. God knows about each of us even before we were born. So who are we to imply "why are you different than the rest of us?" Only God has the answer for you!

Faatoiaboy, I use to feel the same way. Now I have lots of fa’afafine friends weather is a male or female. Just a warning though if you do not know or didn’t know, do not pick a fight with the Polynesian gay community. Other than that they are cool and down to earth.

And after I passed the test & my grandpa passed away, my grandma saved all my grandpa's undies for me. Funny when you hear it but the acceptance and love behind that action would've meant so much to Ice.

The story at 5:19 really pierced my heart. I hope us as Pacific Islanders can rise up when our loved ones are feeling alone in LGBTQ community and be a beacon of light and hope for them to lean on. They are human, they want love and respect. Please people give that love to your family friends struggling with thoughts of suicide or depression before it comes too late.

We live in this world where people are made to feel like they have to fit into a certain category of what’s accepted and what’s not, and life shouldn’t have to be like that. People should be accepted for who they are, no labels. Some people are born a certain gender, and feel the opposite of who they are. Unless you’ve done something wrong towards someone else, or committed a serious act of hate, then that’s where consequences of your actions should come in. Thank you for sharing your story♥️ How beautiful are each of you♥️ Gods blessings upon all of you, can’t wait to see more of the Rodgers do good things in Samoa. Just be you!

We all have agency to chose. I have an aunty who is transgender and I adore her, because she's who she is. She's funny and caring. I love her for who she is. I can't judge what I cannot understand. I adore transmen or transwomen. They have their own unique way to present themselves in who they chose to be. Don't let others chose for you. Do what makes you feel comfortable and be yourself.
