The Rogue: Prince Of Persia | New Gameplay Today

We went nearly 15 years without a wholly new Prince of Persia game after the release of The Forgotten Sands in 2010, but now, in 2024, we will play two brand new Prince of Persia games within six months of one another. The excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown released in January, and today we learn about The Rogue: Prince of Persia, which will be entering early access in May.
The game comes from developer Evil Empire, the co-developer of Dead Cells, and the lineage shows. The game is a 2D platformer roguelike that has a lot in common with Dead Cells, but after spending some hands-on time with the game, it also has its own identity. There is one issue, that in Kolah Namadi, there are head coverings of many Iranian tribes, it would be much better if there was also a cap on the head of the Persian hero in Prince of Persia versions. Using the cheetah animal because this animal is important in Iran due to the danger of extinction in this country was really a good thing in this game. I was planning to write an in depth review which focus on the lore in the lost crown in Turkish. I also think the portrayal of the hero in the lost crown for a prince of persia game was not the best choice. But they wanted to justify them as immortals which are from around the persian empire. We also know that a lot of different etnicities were in the army but I don't know, I wouldn't choose a protagonist with dreadlocks. But the music was fantastic, even Jordan Mechner mentions it by saying this is the most Persian sounding music ever in a Prince of Persia game. Also the locations, scrolls and other lore elements were top notch for a mythology and history enthusiast

Sands of Time and Warrior Within are both iconic looks. I think the WW vest probably gets used more because it fits in more contexts than a shirtless guy in baggy white pants. Sargon was based on Sands of Time, this guy seems like a mix of the WW vest and a bit of 08 with the red sash and blue headpiece.

After watching the whole video I'm really digging the visual style. The soft cell shading with the sketchy character portraits really pop. That Centaur demon(?) With the red body, but the black attack blasts is a standout.

Gotta agree the Warrior Within look *is* the more iconic one. It's the one that's included in the Deluxe Edition of Lost Crown. But also shoutout to the Sands of Time outfit(s) because it's really cool how it changes as you progress through the game, showing how the Prince matures over the course of the game visually.

Honestly I'm looking forward to Motion Twin's Windblown because THAT'S a rogue that evolves the Dead Cells energy. This one looks slow and that's not a word you associate with Dead Cells gameplay.

The soul of deadcells is definitely in this game and not windblown, I don't think either will touch deadcell's crown but this game actually has developers who worked on deadcells, 0 devs of windblown actually worked on deadcells
