Like this chap very much, he makes his arguments seem credible, gets into details which support every conclusion he makes.

I think the fact that so much wrong with todays society can be blamed on the intelligentsia and as a result makes the siloviki appealing as a result needs to be looked at more but Iam barely half way into this video. But you called siloviki 1940s Germans and that makes your positions and stances highly questionable at best

Bro does his homework. As a US Federal civil servant myself with Ukrainian family I want to know what the f***'s going on in Moscow. I want to understand the mechanisms & the motives of the threats facing some of my family. Mr. Galleoti's a good dude, he doesn't assume much of anything without proven info. I'm a retired. tactical weapons handler who prefers to run into fights & stop them before they start. Dudes like Galleoti are the people who spot these oncoming problems. He's worth 5 of me. We are very lucky to have such careful, conscientious, & committed people on our side.

In Russia there is no `black and white`. In Russia there are only shades of grey. This piece bears that out perfectly.

They have a newspaper called "The Truth" (Pravda), that has been lying since 1917 ever since, so the word "pravda" doesn't mean the same anymore.

@@admiralbenbow5083 it has become unimportant, it is now the party-newspaper of the Russian Communist Party of Zyuganov. But the culture of lying, lying, lying and only telling a "tactical truth", never the real truth, has survived communism.

It is quite curious the fact that He couldnt define siloviki's main role after affirming several internal structures of power.
@CoffeeAndPaul3 ай бұрын
Well, as we know now the Siloviki's roles are definitely in transition. Patrushev being replaced by Shoigu as head of their national security council was VERY unexpected. Similarly Bortnikov's appointment as the 'savior warrior of Kursk' (😏) is unusual considering he has no recent military experience. You can call the Siloviki's main role in Russia multi-pronged; they're "Yes" men, they're (mostly dirty) cops, they're spies, they're Putin's problem solvers when they're not the problem... ... but they definitely are a serious problem in Russia today. It were Siloviki who told Putin, after all, that Ukraine would welcome Russian forces after a brief but quickly immaterial effort at a National defense. It were Siloviki-managed intelligence agencies' diplomats-under-cover who got arrested all over Europe (over 500 whom we know of) & shown their respective exit door after all of them were declared persona non grata with their diplomatic statuses removed. The Siloviki's agencies should have seen that coming. It was a multinational event, after all. The Siloviki have proven themselves to be almost or just as incompetent as the rest of Putin's military machine. They're simply disconnected from what's actually happening on the streets, which is ironic when you consider that many of the older Siloviki themselves came from the streets, had rough-and-tumble pasts that should have made them street-smarts, but they are all old & live luxurious lives now. Any sharp edges among those old men have been blunted (with the possible exception of Zolotov & a handful of other guys).

Brilliant synopsis , now why didnt the more academic types on this topic boil the current situation in Russia basic to power grabs , and of course it had to involve the army
@paulrevere23792 жыл бұрын
I do not wish to push this as a direct correllary, but this Siloviki seems to contain similar elements of something plaguing the West: Envy, Ego and Entitlement mentality. The big distinction, of course, is that in the west individuals are infected, the broader society suffers from it; in Russia it seems to be more of a collective infection in which geographical neighbors (other nations) suffer the worst symptoms from the infection.

Those who would claim inteligencia status would only deny such things and show disdain for virtues such as self-reliance. They would never show disdain for concepts that would be self-accusory

Americans ain't the ones who freely stole $Billions from their own National defense agencies. The senior Feds in Russia operate with zero Citizen oversight. They are free to steal because the big boss himself steals. They're actually expected to steal. If you DON'T steal or if you DON'T accept bribes you're actually labeled as untrustworthy in the Russian Federal system. Kleptocracy is a real thing in Russia.

Mister, what's your motivation for investing so much in studying this Russian institution when you could have done a similar job on Russia's opposite institutions in your own country or any of the western countries? And as I'm typing this comment, I hear the way you characterise (or rather, pathologise) Putin. I'm afraid your attempts to come across as an analyst is betrayed by your difficult-to-hide animus towards Russia/Putin. That clearly disqualifies you as a scholar, let alone, an analyst. Why punch above your weight? You would have most probably impressed if you had focused on the instructions in your own country. Or better still, simply join the "free Assange" campaign. Hopefully, you've heard about this name
