This is the only watch you will ever need. You get the great history, a solid modern movement, perfect case size and thickness, very comfortable to wear, 100 m water resistance, great long lasting lume. Also it doesn’t scream Rolex, it goes under the radar with its matt black dial and no ceramic bezel. The best value Rolex in my opinion. LWC would you buy a white version if they release it?

Why wouldn't regular oyster perpetual be a best value rolex? It's cheaper than explorer and still has the white dial. Everything is pretty much the same except the 3 6 9 numerals on the dial. The clasp is different but still a good rolex piece for it's value.

@Sietse I had a similar experience. I fell out of love with my SD43 Mark 1 dial once I purchased the submariner. The latter has a much better fit and feel on my 7.25 inch wrist 😉.

The Explorer is timeless, with a wonderful history. Understated, oozes class without being flashy. Works in almost any setting - office, hiking, whatever. It’s the perfect one-watch collection.

Does it actually have history? The watch that went to the top of the world was a regular oyster perpetual. Rolex milked the achievement and released the Explorer afterwards.

The first Rolex I bought is an Explorer 214270 and I love it more than any other watch I own. The history and sleek design is amazing and cant be beaten by any other Rolex for me :)

I was definitely not expecting the Explorer. I’ve had mine for a year and love it. It makes all the other Rolex sport models look like they are trying too hard. The ultimate go anywhere, do anything Rolex. Congratulations and looking forwards to next week’s review!

I got mine from the AD last Friday and like you haven't had it off my wrist. It's the perfect watch, classy, understated but absolutely beautiful on the wrist. It's also the perfect size for me, not too big or small and the lume is fantastic. Would recommend this watch to anyone.

Yes! Even LWC can appreciate the appeal of the Explorer. Careful though, they don’t call the 214270, the Collection Killer for nothing! 😂😂

I love my Explorer 214270. It's the watch I wear whenever I just want to wear a watch. Simple, no-frills, and as some would say, boring. Having said that, I would not let go of the Sub 114060 if I were you. That's just me as I believe that the "No Date" is the one Sub to have and that the "Hulk" & "Kermit" are novelty pieces that are nice to have in a collection. The ND is different enough from the the two and as it's clear as day that you don't need to raise funds, why get rid of it? Just my opinion. Cheers!

@@MPD90, it's understandable since having five diver's doesn't make a lot of sense. I am with you, I'll drop the SD out of the five. At the end of the day, we buy and wear the watches we like and enjoy. There's no right or wrong choices as long as you do it for yourself and no one else. Cheers!

Welcome to the explorer club, the 214270 was first Rolex and made so many videos about it, when I first got it and a year later on the wrist. It’s simplicity is rich, not doubt. Didn’t think it’s something you would buy considering your collection! Congrats and all the best

Love of this watch is a reflection of a sophisticated understanding of the aesthetics of watches. Beauty in simplicity and purism. If you like this one, you should also get the Oyster Perpetual 39 in black. To me the Explorer One and the OP 39 in black are the essence of Rolex.

Wow... I bought mine 2 weeks back and guess what? I also sleep with this watch. I got Everest band with brushed buckle and I am loving it. This watch is true that it won't do justice on photos or videos. You need to wear it on your wrist. Enjoy your Explorer.

My Explorer is at Rolex having the bezel replaced as we speak. Costs £93 + £60 fitting, so quite reasonable. Hope you enjoy your new acquisition.

Interesting choice, see it as a much better choice for very small collections rather than larger collections because I see it shining in an everyday role. I suppose if you want to wear a Rolex and want the most under-the-radar option this is it.

What a coincidence! I got the call from my AD six hours ago saying they had a 214270 for me to look at. I was on the "waiting list" for a total of 12 hours so they must have had it in the back :) I've got a few SS Rolex in my collection but the Explorer just hits the right note as a daily watch. It's not trying too hard to be some weird macho Navy Frogman or Cosmonaut, and the best part is it flies under the radar so well that only fellow WIS will spot it and you'll never get the "Hey, is that a real Rolex" like you would wearing a Sub or GMTC.

Wise choice. Indeed, if some day I buy a rolex, probably this would be the one. I believe that along with the oyster perpetual, the explorer I is the best daily beater from the current Rolex catalog (timeless design, perfect case size, and under the radar). In addition, the date function, although useful (I have been wearing a Fortis with day-date function for almost a decade) may result uncomfortable if you don´t rotate your watches regularly, as well as brakes the simetry of the dial (except for the AL&S Odysseus).
