Yeah, best version of Dead Flowers EVER... I locked onto the Stones when I was maybe 11 or 12 - been a huge fan ever since (I am 65 now, lol). The live performances between 1969 and 1972 are some of the best live rock and roll performances ever and are the reason they were known as the best rock and roll band in the land - TRUTH. The Stones and the Allman Brothers between '69 and '71 / '72 are the pinnacle of live music EVER... God Bless 'em all !

It's becoming so popular on music videos featuring very famous/talented musicians for the comments " so and so ( insert very famous name ) is underrated " Sorry but it's not cool to jump on the underrated bandwagon, it's just ridiculous especially when talking about a rock and roll legend who's considered one of the best ever

Absolutely! And really, that’s one of the biggest things missing from the Stones in the last 20 years; Keith rarely sings! And certainly NOT with Jagger! It’s too bad, this was one of the major things that made the Stones sound like the Stones (vs just sounding like Mick Jagger). Do you see the smiles between Mick & Keith here? They sure don’t do that anymore either - in fact, none of them smile at all during a concert these last 20+ years! Well, except Keith...he smiles often, but it is not while he’s playing. It’s sad, they just don’t seem like they have fun doing it; and we know that none of the band likes Mick (because he did become such an old lady and premadonna), and Keith and Mick can’t stand each other - so WHY continue touring? Not like any of them need the money! If they loved it, that would make sense, but they sure don’t look like they enjoy it. Almost like it’s torture! Oh well. But your comment - bang on, they DID sound great together - just listen to Wild Horses with earphones...that’s a winning combination!

joseph giuffdrida Well that’s why I said it’s one of the biggest things I miss; so yes he’s smiling here!! They had fun back when this was filmed - always. It’s today they don’t have that same chemistry and closeness they had back then. When Keith stopped the drugs, he took a more active role in the band and that caused conflict with Mick, who up til then was more often able to get his way. Again, that’s why I said I miss it, they had a collaboration that worked and they made some great music! We haven’t seen music like this from them since the 70’s, and most likely we never will again. ☹️ I agree with you, he is The Godfather, and an extremely underrated musical influence! He doesn’t get the credit he should! Have to love Keef in all his phases!! Hahaha.

They both tried solo careers and realized that neither of them alone could do it the way they do it as the Stones! We all have to be happy that was the case, think of all the great bands that ended for various reasons back then (Beatles, Zeppelin, et. al); the Stones were very close to following suit. It would be so amazing to see these two patch up completely and get back to their Glimmer Twins success! Today, they only “get their rocks off when they’re dreaming”, it’s just not the same musical creation it was. I listened to many versions of this song and this is the only one that doesn't go wrong at that point. The other great thing about this live version is the fact that Keith hits all the notes perfectly. I mean, you will never hear a better pitched Keef ever again in your live, hahaha..... You know, I always preferred Keith's vocals over Mick's. Songs like 'Happy' and 'Walk before they make me run' belong to my favourites. Ah well, on the other hand...., there's only one singer who can get away with his vocals on a song like 'Emotional Rescue'. Without Jaggers' voice there's absolutely no-one who can make this song as beautiful as it is. But hey, we're talking about the Rolling Stones. It's only the greatest rock 'n roll band in the world. :-)

Yea I noticed that too. This is the best live performance of the song vocally, IMO, but there is another video on You Tube of this song where Mick Taylor's guitar work sounds even better than it does here. That one is from 1971
@Kleermaker10008 жыл бұрын
His solos during the European 1970 tour are amazing: Brown Sugar, Dead Flowers, Love In Vain, to name a few of them. But there's hardly any good material from that tour, the Essen concert being the best registered (audience) recording. But how many American do know about the Rolling Stones 1970 European tour? Not so many I guess. Mick Taylor's playing during the 1971 Farewell Tour is some sort of spin off of that 1970 Tour, but it is not so good as it was during that wonderful tour in 1970.

Looking at this, you know how much the Glimmer Twins love each other. Look at Mick's face when Keith first joins him at the mic! Best marriage in rock n roll.
@petemartin29510 жыл бұрын
Actually, by this time, there were cracks in their relationship. They just didn't know it yet. Mick had married Bianca a year previously in a church (which Keith completely hated) and Keith and Anita detested Bianca. The feelings were mutual since Bianca reported told Mick (concerning Anita) "I never want to see that cow again". They were also associating in completely different circles (partly because of Mick's high society connections and Keith's increasing drug dependance). You could say that the big break-up in the eighties had its origins right about this time.
@puplover799110 жыл бұрын
I have a theory about their big break up. Being partners w/ a drug addict will damage even the best relationships. Keef was mostly "gone" thru the entire 70's. Mick didn't know when he'd nod off, when he'd have to score, when he'd be functional. Then keef quit smack and he was (relatively) together, he wanted to things to go back to being equal. I think Mick had so much resentment, and he never dealt w/ it. So, they bit each other's heads off in the 80s. Hell, they really needed therapy!

Pete Martin The biggest crack in their relationship happened when Mick stuck it in Anita's crack.
@petemartin2959 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Mick and Anita had sex on the set of the movie they were making a few years previously. Reportedly, Keith was in the car while this was going on and knew all about it but refused to confront them. That was certainly part of the falling out between Mick and Keith.

@@davidmellish3295 funny. @mateuszmattias3 жыл бұрын
It's the best I've ever found. Perhaps one could say Mick Taylors' solo on the Marquee Club version from 1971 is even a slight bit more soulful than this one, but on the other hand Keith isn't in the best shape there and you can hear that on his singing. And Mick still plays a great solo here, so all in all this is the one as far as I'm concerned.
