There's an old saying: "If you're looking forward to retirement, you're working the wrong job." People think once they get to retirement, that suddenly all their problems will be over with. For many people, it's just the beginning of many problems. They have no idea what to do with themselves. They often return to a workplace that they couldn't stand. Finding your passion in life is not always a simple search. You have to keep trying things until something finally works. If you are truly blessed, you do what you love to do and you make money. People kept telling me that after Charlie passed the stones would stop touring. I said no way. Absolutely no way. Charlie would have wanted them to continue.

Excellent comment about retiring. Agree wholeheartedly. When I was young I looked forward to finishing work...especially for holidays....so Ai could indulge and enjoy my leisure time. Now I'm older, I really appreciate the things about work that make you feel worthwhile, that give you self-worth, that define you as a person. I work in music so I identify entirely with why the members of The Stones don't wanna go back and just sit in their huge homes! It's so much better to keep 'doing'.

@@TC-dw6wg Yep I'm with you. The Stones are carrying on because they want to and it's good for them and their well-being (they don't need the dough!) :). But us fans have plenty enough to enjoy the classic Stones (for me, Satanic up to Tattoo You) without having to watch the old and wrinkly version still at it. Mind you I love watching their interviews though, has to be said. Now the past is what it is, they have so much to reflect upon with older, wiser thoughts. Keef in particular....and I loved it when he took over BBC4 for a weekend a few years back and chose programmes and movies he liked.

Tks DJ Gerry, Very cool. Charlie Watts was never the most flashy drummer. He wasn't known for the frenzied solos of Cream's Ginger Baker, or for placing explosives in his kick drum like The Who's Keith Moon. Instead, he was the subtle, stoic heartbeat of The Rolling Stones for almost 60 years.

Steve Jordan's drumming with Paul Shaffer's band on Letterman, and with Keith in the X-pensive Winos always sounded influenced by Charlie Watts. I remember a rock critic in the 1980s describing Jordan's style as a "slap-happy" clone of Watts. So far I haven't heard Jordan create those distinctive fills and riffs that Charlie Watts played to help make so many Stones songs into classics. But Jordan certainly has the style to effectively back up the Stones for as long as they feel like playing.
@GooGyuelle3 жыл бұрын
That critic you mentioned was a no-nothing imbecile. Steve Jordan is as fine a drummer as you could get for the position. As for all these insults of Steve Jordan, those aren’t true and they miss the point. I can’t really analyze from these cell phone recordings how good he is or isn’t with the “Rolling Stones,” but I know from my recollection of the early days of the Letterman show that he’s certainly a good drummer with a vast knowledge of rock music history, but as I expected sounds like he will never be able to even approximate Charlie’s crucial and central role in the band, whatever his style, nor will anyone. Like when Kenny Jones joined “The Who,” he was a great drummer for the Faces but had no business playing in the Who. As I said, they can get who they want but as a fan just don’t call it Rolling Stones because it can never be that without Charlie Watts. It’s an insult. Also, with Elvis Costello, his bass player is still alive but they grew to hate each others’ guts; nonetheless when the other two rejoined him he still changed the name from the Attractions to the Imposters, because without Bruce Thomas whose virtuoso playing drove so many of their songs and was central to their sound it would be false advertising. As is still calling Townshend and Daltrey “The Who” and this bunch “The Rolling Stones.”
@danhermon49223 жыл бұрын
I don’t care what they do as long as they retire or modify the name Rolling Stones because they can’t be that band without Charlie Watts. “The Who” have been insulting Keith Moon and the audience for forty years by keeping that brand name, the Stones can’t need the money.
