Buddy Holly - what a guy. Influenced every band from then on. I wonder how big he would have been if he hadn't died. Still - The Stones & Beatles alone wouldn't have been the same, & that would have been terrible. I'm glad the Stones STARTED their careers with this song, & Started this concert with this song. I would've LOVED to have been at this show - Buddy Holly forever!!

I saw them in Birmingham, AL, on this tour. After the show a young kid in front of me -- who had evidently enjoyed the show very much -- said, "that first song they played was so new they haven't even recorded it yet." the song was, 'Not Fade Away'. I didn't have the heart to tel him they recorded that before he was born.

Not Fade Away was the first single I ever bought. It went for 2m43sec (or thereabouts) The flip side was Mona (made famous by Bo Diddley). It got no playtime on pop radio because it was over 4min long. The original Rolling Stones "Not Fade Away " was a little faster than this and didn't really have the Bo Diddley beat. Mona, however was pretty true to the Bo Diddley version. Still two of my favourite songs.

I saw the same tour at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas in the rain. Water was splashing off of Charlie's snare when he hit it. I think his drum playing put new cracks in the old stadium's foundations.
