One of their absolute best songs that runs under the radar because the subject matter wasn’t considered “radio friendly”.

Of all the Stones' many songs over the last 60 years, this one shows the power these guys can bring to their music. One of my very favorites.

A favorite stones song for me. Ry Cooder’s slide playing is terrifying on this one! Brilliant!

Most forget Jack was still involved with the Stones at this period, but as a session guy, he was not as prominent after the Jones era.

@@fuchsiaswing8545 he unfortunately he showed that even people who are supremely talented need to be functioning human beings. I loved just about every note of music he touched (even ‘Up Where We Belong’). But I’ve yet to hear a single positive thing about the man.

Perfectly said Tre, Jagger is playing acoustic . Ry Cooder ( not a member of the band ) is playing Slide Guitar and Bass. I forgot who is playing the keys on this one though. Sorry about not knowing .

Great song - Marianne Faithfull has always claimed that she had a hand in writing the lyric, and I can well believe it. Certainly, to hear her version is to hear someone singing the song with complete conviction and authority.
@ArmandoMPR Жыл бұрын
She did write the lyrics. I read her autobiography and there she tells of how Mick had written this riff and was always playing it in the house, and that the story of a man that had been in a car crash and was then pleading for drugs in the hospital came to her. Mick put together the group of musicians that recorded her version and was the producer of the session. After releasing it as a single, the label then got cold feet and chose to take it off the market. She got mad at Mick because she thought he didn’t fight enough for it. But Mick had just fought with them for the Baggars Banquet cover art (which he lost) and now she understands that he must have been exhausted with dealing with them. Anyway, even though she didn’t get recognition for her hand in the writing of it in the liner notes, she always got her money from the start. Mick and Keith had written to Klein that she was to receive 1/3 of the royalties from the song. She writes in the book that the money helped her in the worst part of her heroin addiction. Also, the reason she wasn’t initially named as a songwriter was to not have her manager get ahold of her money and steal it from her like Klein had done to Mick and Keith.

One of the first anti-drug songs - don't you mess with Sister Morphine, 'cause you'll end up Dead... Also, the slide guitar parts were played by Ry Cooder, another legend worth a listen...

You got it..The Stones guitar work is weaving. KEITH says that's the essence of their sound weaving guitars no lead no rhythm. Spot on sir.
