Very good version of a classic and so good to see the Stones invite Taj up on stage for it 🙂

i was just having a conversation with a buddy about this song i said "its a classic country hit but its really a rock and roll song" he said "did a rock band ever cover it?" i said "i never heard one" he said "lets check the internet" so here we are apparently a rock band has covered it the fucking rolling stones

I hadn’t heard this version before tonight, but.. yes, I think it was Dave Dudley who first sang it.

You should check out the version by British band Vincent Flatts Final Drive. Knocks this into a cocked hat!

George Thorogood (sp?) and the Delaware destroyers did a cover. its an old song so tons of bands of many genres did covers of it over the years

Taj, your original version of this is amazing, not surprised Mick and the boys jumped on it. Good on them giving credit to their inspirations.

WOW, I cherished that first Taj Mahal album when my oldest sisters university roommate gave it to me for my 13th birthday. All these decades later I still come back to this and other albums I had grown up with! Mick and the boys did a good job. Great to see my Man playing with them! I especially loved cruising to this song! Thanks for uploading this. I've subscribed and will look forward to more from you! 🚘❤💃🏻🎶🎉

It’s not a Stones song. It was written and first recorded by Dave Dudley decades ago. Also covered by dozens of people including the Flying Burrito Brothers and Taj.
@jakollee7 ай бұрын
@@ChristopherBix Not written by Dudley, written by Earl Green & Carl Montgomery. Not first recorded by Dudley, but by Paul Davis. But yeah, Dudley made it a famous hit.

Actually, this is kind of sad. And I got money that says not one of these men know what a Georgia overdrive is.
@jakollee7 ай бұрын
Just looked it up. A "Georgia Overdrive" is kind of an inside joke, it means driving downhill in neutral, using gravity to save on gas and go faster than the engine can when in gear.

Tom Petty version blows this one out of water.
@jakollee7 ай бұрын
The Tom Petty / Mudcrutch version is clearly modeled on Taj Mahal's studio version, on an old album called Giant Step. Lyrics like "...and she's running like she never did before," and "...a sweet Georgia overdrive" are from Taj's version. Even the instrumental intro is based on TM's version.

Prefer the Burritos' version. Gram had a sweeter voice than Mick.
