The entirety of the 1972 "Exile On Main Street" double album is a MASTERPIECE, easily one of the highlights of the Rolling Stones' entire recorded career. The same could be said for the 1978 "Some Girls" album. Get On It....!!!!

"Sticky Fingers" is better, Exile is a double album with some filler songs on it
@trainman5323
@trainman5323 2 жыл бұрын
Filler songs?! Maybe one or two. It’s amazing, they were at the Height of their writing. They hit every style with top quality material. The caveat is the SOUND which Brad picked up on. Recorded in a chateau with a mobile unit parked outside. Sound can be a bit muddy and harsh at times. Not the clean studio sound of Sticky Fingers but better in the variety and quality of the SONGS and that’s saying something since ‘Fingers’ is a classic as well.

When it comes to finding the "right" partner it's like gambling. You throw the dice and take your chances. Brad rolled a Lex & Lex rolled a Brad. For them, they each got a winning roll of the dice. Almost every time I hear a Rolling Stones song I think 100% Keith Richards, the genius.

Exile on main Street is by far my favourite stones album. The fascinating thing about it is how it was made in a basement in South of France. By this time they were seriously fucked up on heroin and Keith named his boat mandrax. It's qualudes from wolf of wall street. The people that came and went were people ranging from world class musicians to local gangsters to bums of the street. Good times Edit, the name of the album is due to the fact that they had to leave UK because they had to pay 97% tax. Every million made the band made they would have received £30k. Late 69s early 70s was the stones best years, the Mick Taylor years. an absolute monster that had some of the most melodic and emotional solos.

@woody81 ...yes, well said. And among those that came and stayed was Gram Parsons who was Keefs shoot em up buddy. Gram was heavily influenced by the Bakersfield sound. Which in turn influenced Keith. Ironically, Mick was not happy with Gram and his bad habits so he raised a shit storm and finally threw him out but it was Mick who went the furthest with the Bakerfield sound including this tune but of course the pinnacle being Far Away Eyes........."I was driving home early sunday morning through bakersfield" Gram Parsons. Influenced one of the greatest rock bands in history. Crazy.

Not even close. Ronstadt was a good interpreter of songs, but she never wrote anything on her own, which speaks volumes in an era when the singer/songwriter came alive. She was a top 40 hitmaker, but no one hails her as an all-time great. The Stones’ original version is the only version that matters.

This is from the middle of the Rolling Stones best period. They did a four-album stretch, all produced by Jimmy Miller, where every song on every album is absolutely great. Starting with "Beggars Banquet" (1967), "Let it Bleed" (1969), "Sticky Fingers" (1970), and finishing with the album this song was on "Exile on Main Street"(1971) is a stretch of music almost unmatched in history. Pick any random song on any of those albums. It'll be a classic.

Funny y'all should think of country. Keith Richards has said that he was greatly influenced by country music around this time. Especially after visiting the south. When he was writing a lot of the music for Exile on Main Street, he was thinking of the country side of the blues. Another great tune from this album is Sweet Virginia. The album really doesn't have a bad song on it.

Exile on main st is Rolling stones’ masterpiece. The band rented a house in France and partied and wrote songs for months. It was a complete mess, but this is easily their best album, but with no real hit songs. Probably due to the chunky production, with low vocals and loud music. Which I love. It’s not mixed for radio.

The Stones liked Country and often took inspiration from it, but often and especially live would play it tongue in cheek. Great example is their "Far Away Eyes"
