He’s not really though. Messi is far far better. Messi is the greatest dribbler and playmaker ever while Ronaldo’s nowhere near that. You can only compare them in finishing but even there Messi is far more efficient than Ronaldo statistically. For example, Messi has scored more long range goals in half the attempts than Ronaldo. Same with free-kicks. Its not really a debate. Players like Maradona, R9 are more comparable to Messi in pure footballing terms. Cristiano’s prime just isn’t that level but he had longevity though which is why he’s top 5 in my books.

It's a rivalry in the sense that other than CR7 no one else in their generation came close to Messi's level, be it on the football field or in stats. But the truth is, and most EPL fans have a hard time accepting this (most notably Man Utd fans), Messi is just better. They are not on the same level. In terms of career, yes, they're comparable. They're more victorious and consistent than everyone else. Some players have more World Cup titles than them, or more Champions League titles, but when you add stats + longevity + individual accolades + consistency + iconic performances to the equation there's no debate. It's Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo first, then comes everyone else. That's one thing. But on the pitch? I'm sorry. Messi is better. He always was and he always will be. You can like watching other players more than you like watching Messi - like my father prefers Ronaldinho over him - but he is the best player of the last 30 years and arguably the GOAT. With Messi's playmaking and Ronaldo's ability to score from that, If they were on the same team then that would create an unstoppable force. If the other team would try to stop Ronaldo then Messi would be there to cover his weaknesses. I think Ronaldo covers Messi's weaknesses to a lesser extent than Messi would cover Ronaldo but I could see Ronaldo pulling out some insane risky stuff if the team is in a losing position. There's no paradox: Rivalries sell, so the sports media hyped up the only player putting up similar numbers to Messi and ignored the fact that Messi is clearly superior at everything else. They gave us beautiful football...and don't forget it's a team sport. And don't forget the greats on other teams. The argument was stupid, it was always stupid. How can you watch football, watch Madrid's three-in-a-row Champions League titles and not understand Ronaldo's greatness, his otherworldly ability to score goals at any moment, from seemingly anywhere? Remember he was not alone on that team. How can you watch football, watch the alien telepathy of Guardiola's Barcelona, seemingly reading each other's minds, see Messi make elite defenders look like amateurs, and not understand Messi's greatness? He also had ten teammates. And both, older than 35 years, are STILL better than, what?, at least 50% of the professionals now playing? I got to see this. I count myself lucky. I'm a Barca fan, from before Messi was in the first team, but I count myself lucky to have been alive during their prime years. Who was better? Who is the GOAT? Who the fuck cares? The football was epic. It was glorious. It was beautiful. It was art in motion, for twelve or thirteen years. I got to see it. That's all I care about.

What a great video! As an argentinian myself of course I prefer Messi for ovbious reasons, but I can't deny Ronaldo's talent and magnitude to this sport. Growing up as a teenager watching them play every weekend was something I truly treasure now as I am older, it was an unique time for football and we all enjoyed it so much that only now we are being conscious of what we witnessed. And even if I prefer Messi it's sad for me that Cristiano didn't won more trophies with his national team, he really deserved more, but even if he didn't no one can deny he's a legend.

Did you know that there isn’t a single major tournament where Pessi hasn’t been carried. Copa America shouldn’t even be recognized, but the midget from Rosario gave up on his country and was harassed into playing for them again, only for his team to carry him to his first international trophy. Don’t even get me started on the 2022 World Cup. The games were staged for Pessi to win in, he was given a penalty every game. FIFA launched an investigation but it was swept under the carpet by DePaul’s dad (who is in FIFA) because they love Pessi so much. Every single champions league win was because of other players, not him, he just turned up, walked around the pitch, showed no passion for the game. If anything Pessi is a disgrace to the sport, incredibly egotistical and self-centered. Absolutely fantastic video, I'm glad that for once the video with few views in my recommendations is not a poorly made TTS narrated video, but instead a very beautifully thought out and inspiring video. I hope there's more success coming your way, you're doing great! On the topic: The era of them will always be special to me, even though I was just a kid, I've seen Messi since he was starting to leave a mark at Barca. I have great respect for both players in different ways, minus CR7 going to Saudi Arabia, which taints his legacy not as footballer but as a person in my eyes. The only thing is: I will see goals like Ronaldo's again. Probably not as many over such a long period of time, but still they will always exist. I've never seen a player who moves like Messi and I sadly don't think I ever will again. No tricks, just a man with the ball glued to his feet who knows what the defender will do next before he does. It feels impossible to recreate. I'm just grateful to have witnessed all of this.

Messi is easily the better player and has always been. Better playmaker, dribbler, passer, arguably even scorer if we look at the advanced statistics. Also better teammate and less selfish. However, the amount of disrespect towards Ronaldo (which is exacerbated by how he acts nowadays) is crazy. There is so much to say about both. One thing I would like to add was their leadership skill. While both being important leaders to their team, Ronaldo developed the skills earlier then Messi and pushed his team forward while Messi relied for a longer time on player like Xavi and Iniesta. Both are in the end exceptional leaders now for their team espically in their national teams. The only critique for Ronaldo is that he doesn't step down in Portugal which will leave a negative mark in that area.
