Because she has a truly unique form of obtuseness that can deflect any facts to the contrary of her theory of incarceration. It's like watching an artist at work. I remember watching her visit a prison in Norway, seeing how it actually works and then going "well, it wouldn't work."

Because the media is broken and not fit for use. Just watch the utterly disproportional cover and platforming Reform will get in comparison to the likes of the Greens or even the Lib Dems.

Nearly a third of prisoners in the UK are reoffenders, so prison itself obviously isnt a deterrent.

There is no rehabilitation in prisons in other countries you can actually learn a trade and gain experience working within the prison via contracts between the prison and outside companies where they can save enough money for release to get back on their feet in the U.K. prisoners are released with no money or accommodation unless you have drug or violence issues so people go straight back to crime to survive you can’t get a decent job because of your record even if you become a director of your own business you still struggle because you will never pass a KYC or cdd the truth is they don’t want rehabilitation because they need cells filled every empty cell is a loss

Social Stratification. It is actually to leave behind, not to take into account the EDUCATION, the working class population only to use them for work, that way you get directly to poverty. Which leads to major delinquency, crimes, etc. Build EDUCATION, Fair Distribution in Society😢😢😢

Labour are intending a review of punishment system and build new prisons with the money allocated but not spent by the Tories. Very few who should not be there? There are thousands sentenced under IPP, one prisoner is still incarcerated fir stealing a cost 18 years ago when the original sentence was 18 months, there are multiple cases like this!
@Bringontheasteroid
@Bringontheasteroid 5 ай бұрын
Most people never receive custodial sentences, around 2% of violent crimes for example, usually just the worst cases. Nobody was sentenced 18 years ago for stealing a cost, whatever that is, please try and keep your arguments within the realms of reality.

It all comes back to the Tory’s and austerity.
@lestrem11
@lestrem11 5 ай бұрын
Without austerity you would have had a runaway public spending catastrophe. Still, Labour are committed to return to spending your money within the ‘fiscal rules’. This , in truth, means spending nothing or going into even more debt. Still, if growth does improve ( though Labour have never said how they will achieve this ) you will have business to thank not public services.

Since the 1960s £Billions have been spent on academic studies and reform programs in the UK and USA. Criminologist know that most criminals are sociopaths and hard criminals and murderers are psychopaths. They can not be rehabilitated.
@chrisspencer6502
@chrisspencer6502 5 ай бұрын
Really, the majority of people in American jails are there on non violent drug offences. Most of whom would be walking free if they had a reasonably legal defence and didn’t plea out because they had a overworked public defender and a over reaching district attorney

We need to recognise the budget is limited. Places in prisons are limited.. Give the budget to the CPS to manage. Going to trial will cost X amount. Locking someone up will cost Y amount a year. They will soon start to plea bargain .

Baffling. Why interview a deranged person, who plays no legitimate role in UK politics? Rather than deal with her crackly phone line you could have just asked the next random person who happened to be passing the studio. After a long an inglorious career we are still waiting for Widdecombe to offer anything of worth to the political or public spheres. What next; economic analysis from Liz Truss? Marriage guidance from Boris Johnson? Tax advice from Nadim Zahawi? LBC are wasting their time interviewing the likes of Widdecombe when there are competent and thoughtful people available, people better informed and less swivel-eyed.

Widdecombe has never been or ever will be an authority on anything .and it will come as a shock to Widdecombe that under successive govts funding has been drastically cut year on year. So other than having no staff you have to cut education and workshops as there is nothing else to bin . she needs to try and do some research before exposing herself as a halfwit .but why change the habit of her lifetime.
