Now that you have given the academic staff their say, please do the same to the student body. Public university students are suffering great injustice at the hands of corrupt and incompetent lecturers. Lecturers missing classes seems to be the order of the day. Missing marks for exams already sat is the order of the day. It is really painful seeing what these young people go through.

Our lecturer once with held the results over her payment and we almost missed our Masters graduation. We could never understand why she was never paid for the two years since we completed the unit when we had paid-many governance problems. Another case is of my former classmate, a lecturer who has waited for his payment for the last three years. Isn't this against labour laws? Most lecturers avoid suing because they will discriminate against them and will never get the Masters's and PhD classes to teach again. Yet, Universities are so strict with fees payment and lock out students at the gate; why are they not paying the lecturers their dues in time? Then there is a VC whose term ended in 2022 and who wanted to be Governor. A hiring spree was carried out to attract votes from the locals, and cronies were promoted to senior lecturers. Now the University is struggling with a huge wage bill of three secretaries serving one head of department. We are just a greedy nation.

A hiring spree......but some three secretaries are singled out for mention as a cause of the wage bill! I once worked in the University as a 'wage bill spiker'. I heard, saw n experienced this unwarranted slighting n marginalisation. We were actually categorised with messengers, drivers, tea servers and groundsmen. It hurt then - still does - real bad.

@@luciakabui3151 sorry if giving these examples hurt you. A head of department of a university with less than 500 students doesn't need three secretaries. If they do, then how many will you give the Dean and the Vice Chancellor? 10 secretaries each? When you hire 80 people at ago then give HoDs secretaries they never asked for that is a hiring spree. In the end the University fails to pay salaries like in this case salaries are delayed till mid-month. That is a problem that needs to be stopped whether it hurts some people or not. There is an ongoing audit to downsize and that is justified because it makes Professors to receive their salaries late because someone was looking for votes.

Unfortunately, Kenya is one of the few countries in the world where public university dons have been turned into bunch persons that can't access proper health care insurance... While our MPs or MCAs of whom some are their students have access to huge insurance cover...

Public universities are managed by folks who are not aware of what goes on in the institutions which they manage. One of the top universities in Kenya has even it's academic systems run by folks who are not employed.

@@catekariuki3567 They're under short-term contract; some have even done malice, making money and just walking away after they've been discovered. They also know more of the systems than even those that are employed and put in charge of systems like the ICT directors. Nakwambia public universities ziko na mchezo.
