@quakxy_dukx2 жыл бұрын
I was hoping someone would say that the principle mechanic is autorotation. Another interesting fact is that in the case of an engine failure helicopter autorotation is actually far slower and safer than a plane gliding

I bought this game a few days ago because of you. I am doing the story mode thing. I tried making a plane with the parts I have. I only have the basic modular wing, the first steering hinge, and the booster jets, which have a cool down. Say the least, its a sketchy bird to fly. I call it CAWW! But the creation I like the most so far is my shark. Its so cute when it picks stuff up in its mouth.

I think the way you'd do this in a real autogyro is by having the blade pitch adjustable. As you go down, the blades pick up speed - and then right before landing you change the pitch so it generates a little bit of lift from the stored speed to slow you down.
@JustWillB2 жыл бұрын
Hi Scrapman, For an autogyro the rotor blades actually need to point downwards (i.e. a negative angle of attack). That way the air passing up through the rotor disc accelerates the blade rotation. As the rotation of the blades get's faster you can reduce the negative angle of attack in order to generate more lift. But it always points down. if you look at your rotorbuggy the wing segments are going backwards compared to their normal direction. This is why.
@JustWillB2 жыл бұрын
Also to take of from flat ground make the rotor disc lean backwards a bit. That means air rushing past from the front goes up through the rotor disc and accelerates the downwards pointing blades.

The Autogyros you found are also called Gyrocopter. They are producing lift by angeling the upper Rotor in the correct position while getting velocity by the small rotor.

Autogyros will generally function better with a small flywheel of sorts (or just by making the rotor heavier) in early and late stages of flight by providing more lift.

I can’t help but laugh whenever I see the word cyclocopter because clearly whoever named it didn’t know that the etymological breakdown of helicopter is helico pter meaning spiral wing which would mean cyclocopter would be broken down into cycloco pter which doesn’t make sense. Cyclopter however does make sense by combining the intended cyclo and the original pter. Also that was a really long sentence

The way you win is which ever team lives the longest and the way to win the first 2 is to shoot down the enemy 2 person plane in with the fastest time.

As an engineer autogyros and helicopters alike use a ballast balance system so yes you are on base with the assumption, autogyros use their enormous weight and the counter rotating horizontal prop , my suggestion..... Add more weight on the center bottom, then make the propellers on a rotation point to generate lift once the top blades gain enough momentum
@Hlebuw3k2 жыл бұрын
The Ekranoplan is a massive Russian plane-boat hybrid, the pictures says it all. It was supposed to glide 10 meters above the water, removing the force of friction against it, lifting off with the whole front engine array, and then staying afloat just with the back low power engines and the power of the ground effect (when close to the ground, the high pressure air bellow the machine would lift it naturally). It was supposed to revalutianize water travel, giving Russians a huge advantage in military power. Because of how the ground effect works, the bigger the machine, the higher above the water it could hover, so the engineers invisioned huge airliners and military machines floating high above the waves. But, the small prototypes were not enough to impress the higher ups, and so the funding was not enough to build the final plans, and the project had to be abandoned.

@weeveferrelaine69732 жыл бұрын
Already hearing Betty say "Pull up... Pull up" in my head, just from reading your comment, haha.
@TommyCrosby2 жыл бұрын
This is why, in some conditions, helicopters are better for emergency landing than airplanes when losing the engine. They can use autorotation to slow down the fall and control where to land in a short distance. They can land everywhere uncovered right on the spot. Airplanes might have the "glider" effect giving you more time to react, but you still need to find a strip of land with enough length and glide there.
@lehazing59572 жыл бұрын
hey just wanted to say that for "correct" auto-rotation (the one that helicopters use in an emergency) u need to be able to control the pitch of ur rotor blades.

Hey scrapman, small modular wings with heli blades work at slowing you down. Sadly you need to be able to effectively control the way you fall with surface controls to level you out. If the smw + heli blades have their bottom facing the direct direction you are falling they will slow you significantly. Also, forward momentum with unpowered heli blades make the blades function more like stubborn wings.

I've just discovered your videos a couple days ago. Been watching for many hours! Thanks. I've got two ideas. One is like a tennis ball launcher. Like, two opposing racks of tires. Each pair spins faster than the last. So, any object stuffed between the first two tires is thrust between the next set, and so on. Massive speeds could be achieved! Probably an easy sonic boom maker. Second, wheels on wheels. Like, one big wheel with lots of smaller wheels around the perimeter. When they're all spinning, it might double your ground speed. It's probably impossible unstable though.

This technique is something all helicopter can do, as a means of emergency landing when engines fail. Some flight simulators are accurate enough for it to work. When falling, the goal is to keep the rotors spinning fast, which both stores energy and also slows the fall. The secret to landing is then to gradually raise the collective just before you hit the ground, transferring the stored energy into lift. Not only can you reduce fall speed to zero, you can end up moving upwards again if you pull too hard. (Which is really bad if a soft landing was your goal... since you probably have very little rpm left at that point...)

You should do a rotodyne. It was a plane with a free spinning propeller that would use jet engines at the tip of the blades to spin them in take off and landing and during flight the actual propellers that provided forward motion would activate and the giant rotor on top would keep spinning because of the air hitting it and it would generate lift without the use of wings. It had prototypes built and was meant to be a cheaper way of transportation that would leave airports and big airliners obsolete in city to city flights inside the country being able to land on the roofs of buildings that had helipads. Removing the need to take a bus or a cab from and to the airport. But it didn't make it far. Mustard made a video about it and google also has some kind of helpful informatio. If I said anything wrong I am sorry this is just what I remember but something close to what I said.
@Bendigo12 жыл бұрын
A few problems i noticed with this design. 1. The rotors were spinning the wrong way. 2, The blade pitch was too great and the wrong direction. 3. The rotor needs to be tipped back so that autorotation can occur while moving forward and not just while falling. I think if those issues were corrected, it might actually work as intended. I do not know how accurate the physics and aerodynamics are in the game, but i see potential in this design.

Somehow confusing - shouldn't the wings be tilted downwards in order to ensure the wings rotate forward by windforce to create lift. Currently they are spinning backwards, as they are angled up thus they should not provide lift but just air-resistance...?
@mayronjunior1392 жыл бұрын
Well, you see, they are free spinning. It will not generate upwarda lift. Only offer wind resistence to deacelerat the fall.
@mar.m.52362 жыл бұрын
Answering myself and correcting here. It seems the orientation of the rotor wings, upwards/downwards has actually nothing to do with the initial spin-up of the rotor. Gyrocopters/Autogyro have a connection to the motor to spin up the rotor to a sufficient speed to allow take of. After the rotor is spin-up the motor is disconnected and the rotation is just maintained by forward motion. cf: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYCbf4V_oLeNsMU The rotation ensures that the wings can generate the required lift... Of course it is the question how they wanted to do that while throwing the vehicle out of a plane ;-) Maybe tilt the wings downwards to ensure that the wings go forward and hope that you get enough rotational speed to generate lift before hitting the ground :-)
@jorge85962 жыл бұрын
@@mar.m.5236 exactly, they would pitch the rotor down initially to get it up to speed, then slowly pitch it up to maintain optimal RPM (this would be around the neutral position), just before hitting the ground they would use the energy stored in the rotor to generate lift by pitching the rotor up and slow down the descent to 0 right as they hit the ground. It's what helicopters do in case of engine failure, except for them the rotor is already spinning so they ignore the 1st step

@jenniferstewarts4851 Жыл бұрын
These things do work, but require far more training because they operate by counterrotation, you let the rotor build up speed then change the pitch of the blades so they generate lift. this is the same principle as the autogyro or Gyrokite the German Focke-Achgelis Fa 330, was an unpowered gyrokite used by Uboats. connected by a tether, and phone cord.. the pilot could be lifted 100's of feet into the air to scout, at just 300 feet, a pilot could see about 25 miles and telephone the location and direction of enemy ships. Now there ARE flying car/autogyro's.
