Join the Company as they prepare to perform three of Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton's best-loved works. Find out more at www.roh.org.uk
To continue The Royal Ballet's celebrations of 70 years in residence at the Royal Opera House, the event explored the three works that comprise The Royal Ballet's upcoming mixed programme of works by Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton: The Dream, Symphonic Variations, and Marguerite and Armand.
Among other highlights, the livestream saw Zenaida Yanowsky and Gary Avis rehearsing Marguerite and Armand with former Principal-turned-Répétiteur Jonathan Cope, and Francesca Hayward and Marcelino Sambé being coached through an extract from The Dream. It also featured short interviews and a panel discussion exploring Ashton's legacy featuring Company Director Kevin O'Hare and former Principal-turned-Répétiteur Lesley Collier.

What a privilege to watch Francesca Hayward and Marchilino Sambe rehearse! I saw the matinee performance of this in June. It was so beautiful and stunning. Would love to see it again. Caspar lench as puck was superb! ❤❤❤

Zenaida Yanowksy is just in a class of her own... she'll be greatly greatly missed! What a fabulous artist. Beautiful partnership of Francesca Hayward and Marcelino Sambé, they look fabulous together! Also very nice to see a Principal presenting, Alexander Campbell did a very good job. Amazing insight!

Frankie moves with so much grace even when she is not doing it full on. Even though, the choreography is crazy fast, she doesn't look hurried at all. Oberon is very difficult but Marcelino gets it right away. Royal Ballet is my fav company❤️

Alex is a great choice for hosting, he is a lovely person both physically and personally. He should always host. He has proven himself to be a force! Safe to say I am a fan of his and would love to see more of him in any way. He is just a a jem. I would love to hear from him, on so many levels as a dancer, as a dancer who has a made it. As a dancer who has made it public to the the population that he has a hearing problem what challenges that he faced or didn't because of it. This is not a hate or trolling comment rather it is a fellow lover of dance and specifically ballet who also has a hearing issue / impairment / hard of hearing.

Having a window into rehearsals and the intense work of Royal Ballet artists is such a treat, especially being able to see the development of dancers across several seasons. As someone who watches from North America with sparse opportunities to see performances in cinema, the KZbin video presence and World Ballet Day are primarily how I'm able to see the Royal Ballet. Thank you for continuing to share with us.

This style of balletic acting, with its wealth of detail, reminds me of silent films. I would guess that Ashton was inspired by early Garbo.

yeah but imagine having to stand some crazy old guy telling you: you are not fast or good enough, is painful to be a dancer as it is....not easy..your body gets a lot of beating, and then some old guy saying those things...oh no....

What do you want? To be told that you’re beautiful all the time? To be told that you’re wonderful all the time? To be told that you’re always perfect, and that the world owes you a favour just because you bothered to show up? To be never told the truth of the shortcomings of your work, and where areas could stand some improvement? What kind of a self-absorbed, narcissistic creature are you? Criticism hurts, but if it’s intelligently given and intelligently worked with, can be useful in ones artistic and personal growth. To refer to a great ballet master as “Some crazy old guy” betrays your complete lack of maturity, basic intelligence and good sense. You need to learn to think before you write.
@ultravioletspirit
@ultravioletspirit 7 жыл бұрын
Aves Raggiana absolutely not, that's their job, and criticism helps. but dancing is very hard on your body and is painful, of course that criticism helps, but they were already doing great. and yes, I wouldn't want someone who cannot do it anymore tell me off . it is very hard as it is and it is. I just find his criticism very petty. they were doing it nicely. You can say whatever you want, but I am entitled to my own opinion of the situation.

I'm terribly sorry to ask this but I have wondered for decades; what on earth do ballet guys put in their pants to make them look "massive"? It's practically vulgar.
@natasharouse1932
@natasharouse1932 7 жыл бұрын
Not quite what they "put" down there, they wear a dance belt! It's like a super thick elasticated thong that holds everything in and ensures that nothing shows through their tights. You can buy the fabric pretty thick so it might exaggerate things...hope this helps!
@leoninsf
@leoninsf 7 жыл бұрын
Andreas C. Male Ballet dancers wear dance belt. You can always google to see it for yourself. Dance belt give male dancers protection and support for all of our movements in dance. Some brands might make dance belt with more padding, and some with less. If you go back to the history of Ballet, you will see some male costumes ( in the Court of King, men wore tights similar to what we wear in Ballet today). Human body is beautiful, wearing tights allow us and audience to see our lines clearly. However, if your eye main focus is our crotch, then you are missing out. Men wear tight pants in many sports: American football ( with jockstrap for protection), Baseball, Fencing, and men wear tighter outfit in tracks & fields, diving, swimming...to name a few. The fact that you find Ballet dancer outfits vulgar has nothing to do with us, it starts with you.

Well...sometimes when something is put right in front of your face, "Thanks camera angles!" you can't help but look. But yeah, the dance belts are pretty uncomfortable, just like thongs are uncomfortable for women. But at least we get the option of not wearing undies under our leotards lol

The director was SO annoying. Get out of their way, no cares about the details, this is practice.
@avesraggiana
@avesraggiana 7 жыл бұрын
You’ve got it wrong. It’s in practice that the details are worked out and fleshed out. There’s no time to work them out during the performance. Stopping and starting again, and fixing positions and phrasing is the point of rehearsals.
