Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh announced live at the King's Coronation that the appearance of the British royal family looked "terribly white." Speaking of Bridgerton, the internet has a lot to say about race when it comes to fictional royalty in the show.

@@rachelr9352 I dont know much about the royal family (ik im a terrible brit) but i think they're of German descent. 2 predominantly white countrys for their entire existence and people think they choose to be all white? Some things in the family over the years surrounding race have appeared, but people aren't even giving charles a chance. As forced as it was, the coronation was incredibly diverse by Royal standards. Charles is good with the younger generation too, and im sure will rebuild ties if these absolute idiots who im embarrassed to share a generation with would just listen

Netflix did a docuseries a few years ago about the Russian royal family leading up to the revolution. Netflix did an amazing job with casting. The photographs are almost identical to the actors that were cast. There were also historians commenting on the events as the actors were portraying the family and supporting figures. There's nothing wrong with historically accurate casting. It helps the history come to life for people who weren't there to witness it and learn about it.

@@Equitine I am still shocked about the "documentary" and there are soooo many contradictions with how they handled the backlash. They literally say in the docu that cleopatra was a "black woman" (despite choosing a biracial actress and darkening her skin) and their argument is that Cleopatras mother "might" have been black. Why are they making a docu series about something that MIGHTt (most likely) was not true and how could her mother have been "black" if Cleopatras parents were literally RELATED! And if they were going from the angle of her being mixed race why not SAY she MIGHT have been biracial instead of saying she was a BLACK woman? The Docu is literally a LIE and such a disappointment, they could have chosen SOOOOOOO many different queens if they wanted someone "Black" but instead they chose a WHITE queen who was not only pale but had RED HAIR and probably even freckles in real life.

For those of us who are a little older, we are more upset that they didn't follow the books more than they did, but when we expressed this, we were called racists. The issue with Queen Charlotte is that black america has the racist "one drop rule" and because of american influence "black brits" have adpted that racist rule too. All of a sudden having African heritage means being biracial/mixed race. People need to understand that having african heritage is not the same as being black or mixed race. The vast majority of people on earth have some african heritage that does not make everyone black. Queen Charlotte was WHITE, both her parents were white, all her grandparents were white, her having a north african ancestor down the line does not change that fact.

I saw someone say recently that no one demands diversity of any other "colour" or country. No one is asking South Korea, Japan or China to diversify their populations. 97+% of the population of Japan is Japanese. 96% of the South Korean population is Korean. 90% of the Chinese population is... surprise! Chinese. Diversity is generally only required of Western countries, whether or not they engaged in colonialism.

Notice they demand only white people to embrace diversity. While black and latin people don't have to worry about that. They have their movies, shows, communities, businesses, programs, events, etc... Black businesses hire only black people, tv shows created by black people only black actors star in it, black fashion designer hires black models only, etc etc. You see that behavior in every community and culture. It's human nature. Only is acceptable, stunning, and brave if they do it. They call it "representation". But if white people do it, they call it racist.

Unfortunately, far too many people get their "knowledge" of history from TV and movies instead of reading well-researched papers, books, and biographies. I've heard the craziest things from so many people, even older people, that they believe about history that they got from movies and shows. Most "period pieces" are woefully inaccurate in many ways. The trouble with the current trend of casting POC as characters in social positions they never would have occupied during past time periods is that people may get the wrong idea about what life was actually like for POC during those times which I think is actually a disservice and is disrespectful to the POC that lived (and suffered) through them. I don't watch movies or shows such as Bridgerton for that reason and because I'm too much of a history buff that cares about historical accuracy to get into them. It pulls me out of the story, like old westerns do when the women are wearing 1950s era "bullet bras" and hairstyles. I have absolutely nothing whatsoever against POC or actors that are POC and I understand how it would feel unfair to be told one could not play a part due to their race, but history is history. I highly doubt a white actress would ever be cast as Coretta Scott King, no matter how much she wanted the part. It can't be changed no matter how much some may wish to, and Queen Charlotte was not black, no matter how much some may want it to be true.

What that actress said is really ridiculous and unfortunately not surprising in this world. But as far as Queen Charlotte goes I have to say it was actually really great and my favorite of all 3 seasons so far. Yes, it obviously focused way more on race, but I honestly was curious about how there was a black queen in their fictional world when I watched Bridgerton. So if you accept that it's a big part of the show, which focuses on other things as well such as George's super heartbreaking story, the writing and acting was so well done, and the romance between Charlotte and George was by far my favorite one of them all.

These people not making up their minds on what they want is like arguing with my employee who can't decide if they want to go home early with the "well, I need more hours" followed by "I could go home early instead if you want" and when I ask if they want to go home early they just say "well, I could do whatever if you want". After back and forth, I send them home early, and they get pissed and try to stay instead. Nobody can make up their minds these days, they want everything and nothing all the same time.

I think I understand wanting to be something other than you are. Thinking you are born in the wrong body. But I understand wanting to be who you think you are. My question is always: How do you know you weren't supposed to be who you are right now? Why is it wrong to be how you were born? My gender identity journey was very simple. I looked at my body and I looked at people who looked like me and concluded, that's me! I'm a boy! I did have a curiosity about girl clothes and was curious about wearing them, but I never told my parents because I based my gender on what I saw, not how I felt. Now, I am more in touch with my emotions, and I feel more feminine. I often wonder what it would be like if I was more in touch with my emotions when I was younger and if my parents were to ask me how I felt and if I really did feel like a girl, but still associated my gender with how I present naturally, how I would feel about the idea that I can become a girl.
