Paola Alejandra Calderón Sánchez Henry the eighth married Catherine queen of Aragon after his brother who then died had married her. They had one surviving daughter but not a male heir. This is why Henry ran off with Anne Boleyn after divorcing her and separating from the Catholic Church yo only have Elizabeth. He then married many other wives. He had on son that died as a teenager. All of Henry wives and the story of queen elisabeth are the subject of many great movies and tv shows. At some point people should actually grasp history as knowledge.

@@Ale.calsan4777 I'm sure there have been as Catherine's parents were the famed Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand who united the Spanish kingdoms. Catherine's brother Juan predeceased his parents, age 19, without heirs and her older sister Isabella died in childbirth to a stillborn, first child. So her sister Joanna became Queen, but was so mentally ill that they ultimately forced her to abdicate for her son, Charles, the first Hapsburg ruler of the united Kingdom of Spain.

Edward died at 15 and was very sickly, thus no one bother marrying him, Mary waited until she became Queen, age 37, to marry the heir to the Spanish throne and tried to conceive and heir, but failed. Elizabeth did not want to marry so she allowed her cousin, James Stuart to succeed her, great grandson of Henry VIII's sister, Margaret.

I can't wait either! I am very excited about it! Henry [Tudor] VII, King of England and Lord of Ireland and Elizabeth [Plantagenet] of York, Queen Consort of England are my fifteenth great-grandparents. Oh, and just so you know, the filmmakers have made this show "historical fiction." When Henry and Elizabeth married, she never sought out to take the throne or be in competition against Henry. The trailer portrays such machinations but they did not take place in real life. They had a loving marriage and their union brought peace to England and Wales ending the medieval age and ushering in the Early Modern Era. Because of the influence of 'the English Royal House of Tudor,' the English Renaissance and the English Reformation began and flourished bringing forth many notable learned men AND women. The first woman ever to have her works published was also a queen: (Queen Consort) Catherine Parr, the sixth and final wife and consort to Henry [Tudor] VIII. In 1545 Queen Catherine had her prayer devotional book "Prayers or Meditations" published. I love my Tudor as well as Plantagenet ancestors. Such rich history!

As if the Yorks would have sided with Elizabeth Woodville, let alone look to her for leadership. The whole point about Edward V's mishandling that started the power struggle between Richard III and the Earl of Rivers was because Elizabeth wanted the Woodville family to be the power behind the throne, not the Yorks. And the Yorks as far as I know never stopped despising Elizabeth's low birth or the way they forced through rich and elevating marriages for Elizabeth's siblings. They would rally around Edward's children, but never Edward's lowborn, grasping wife (from their PoV).
@VeracityLH6 жыл бұрын
It was a case of politics making strange bedfellows. Elizabeth Wydevil wanted a York king, so did the Yorkists. Therefore... considering that Elizabeth of Suffolk had sworn to Tudor and obstensibly attempted to be loyal to Tudor, the "White Queen" was the only Yorkist on the spot to lead the faction. Henry Tudor's actions show that he certainly thought she was. Keep in mind that while a lot of the Yorkists despised her as Queen and did not want to her be regent for her son, they did want her son to be king. And after the rise of the Tudors, many still wanted it. So if they had to follow her guidance, advice, or accept her support, they weren't going to quibble at that point. What might have happened had the Yorks been restored... well, that's a historical What If?
@aislingyngaio6 жыл бұрын
@@VeracityLH Let's be honest, nobody cared if Edward V was king until Richard III was way too openly blatant about his power grab and stepped over too many toes and heads (esp Hastings). If all the Yorkists wanted was a York King, why discredit and slander Edward IV posthumously to disinherit his two sons? No, it was because Elizabeth's sons were viewed more as Rivers than as Plantagenets, at least to the York family, who aside from Edward IV, despised the Rivers' meteoric rise to power under Edward IV. They would never have accepted Edward V as king if it meant Elizabeth and Antony Rivers were the power behind the throne. Just because they later supported Simnel / Warbeck doesn't mean they support Elizabeth or "look to her for leadership" (what nonsense), it's simply a matter of them thinking the grass may be greener on the other side, like every other defeated rebellion leader thought when they supported pretenders to the throne.
@alexander97035 жыл бұрын
They didn't dispise Elizabeth for being lowborn. Her mother was Jaquetta of Luxemburg, ruling house of Burgundy and Jaquetta herself was Duchess of Burgundy, and the highest lady in the realm until Margaret of Anjou became Queen, Jaquetta was incidentally a close friend of Queen Margaret. They resented her family for their meteoric rise, and the influence they had at court. Elizabeth herself was more popular than Margaret of Anjou, and had done the primary role of Queen and more, she had given the York dynasty male heirs and then some. When the House of York fell from power, among those the defeated looked to was Elizabeth. The idea that then still held her supposed 'low born' status against her when Henry Tudor was King is a joke, I assume?
@aislingyngaio5 жыл бұрын
@@alexander9703 Not a joke at all. Maybe you're forgetting but in the medieval patriarchal world, the mother's bloodline cannot make up for the father's. Jacquetta being a highborn duchess-by-marriage will do nothing to wipe out the stain of Richard Woodville's low birth, though they certainly tried to use Jacquetta's high status to cover up just how lowborn Elizabeth was on her father's side. If the House of York didn't view Elizabeth as lowborn, why would they defame and slander her marriage and invalidate it after Edward IV died and Antony Woodville (her brother) was instructed by Elizabeth to attempt to bypass Edward's will to install Richard III as Edward V's Lord Protector? People seem to think that Richard III was alone in this mad power grab, but the truth is, like any other usurper, you cannot do it without popular support, especially from your own family. Also, so what if Elizabeth was more popular than Margaret of Anjou? To the people in power, she brought nothing worthwhile to the Crown with her marriage (in fact, a lot of marriageable Yorkists were forcibly married into the Woodvilles, which could be argued as a dilution of the Yorkist powerbase) except the birth of the two Princes, and by the time Edward IV died, Margaret of Anjou was a distant memory, having been imprisoned and then ransomed back to France to live out the last of her years. Margaret of Anjou was no threat to England and the Yorkists after the death of her son, but Elizabeth Woodville was very much alive and seeking to remove Yorkists from power in favour of her Woodville relatives.

This is what upsets me, is that in the book, Lizzie gave birth up to Edmund, but in the show she just somehow, stops at Henry. They omit key details, as in Duchess Cecily's death in 1495, the birth of three (possibly four if you are a believer of the mythical Edward!) children, as well as the death of one of them. Now on the family tree, it show four children, another daughter, I assume to be Mary, Queen of France, seeing as she is the only one of Lizzy and Henry's daughters, besides Margaret to reach adulthood. The girl looks about four or five, to old to be the baby Elizabeth, who died when she was three, and tiny at that.

I know this comment is really late but.... "mythical Edward"? I've never heard this theory - can you tell me more about it?
@isabellegreen7997 жыл бұрын
I'm sure most people know this anyway, but even though this show represents real people and real events, it deviates from the facts a lot. We have no evidence that Elizabeth of York was nicknamed 'Lizzie' or that the Edward they mentioned as being 'Lizzie's' cousin (who I'm assuming is the Edward that was son of George Plantagenet) was nicknamed 'Teddy'. It is also highly unlikely that Prince Richard (the younger of the Princes in the Tower) survived, as numerous pretenders claimed to be him during the reign of Henry VII. I know this is drama and I don't wish to be a spoilsport, I'm just reminding the people who aren't quite sure that this is not entirely factual. And like everyone else is saying, I so wish that they kept the original cast from the White Queen and made this more like a sequel to it. Would have been so much better.

It's historical fiction. Margaret didn't think he would be king from the time he was born, and she was not the pious stick in the mud either. She liked having fun and her last two marriages were successful with Stanley being a bit more political. All she wanted was her son's lands and titles restored and Edward gave it back to him but then he died. In her years to service with the King and Queen, they want to say that Margaret held onto this huge grudge when in fact she became very close to the York children as she did spend time with them. Her second, or third, husband fought for Edward and she was dragged into court when Henry VI was king for those few months as if she really had a choice when she was summoned. People forget that women back then had very few rights or liberties and she did what she had to do and I think both Edward and Elizabeth knew that and forgave it eventually.

Welcome to The White Princess; Royal Family Tree. Our story begins in 1485. England was torn between the warring houses of Lancaster and York. The York family ruled England, until their King, Richard III was killed in battle by Henry Tudor. Henry, was the decendant of the Lancastrians, and when he would be crowned, the House of Tudor was born. Henry's mother Margaret Beaufort believed Henry was destined to be King from the moment he was born. Upon his coronation, Henry's uncle, Jasper Tudor, stepped in as his most trusted advisor. And the new ruling family set about quelling the remaining decent among the defeated House of York. Now, with their King, Richard III dead, the Yorks looked to Elizabeth Woodville, The White Queen for leadership. Elizabeth was mother to a number of children. Her oldest girl was Lizzie, The White Princess. Lizzie was forced to marry Henry, in an effort to unify the rivalling houses of York and Tudor. But other York heirs to the throne threatened Henry's crown on multiple fronts. For one, Lizzie's York cousin Teddy, was viewed with suspicion by the Tudor family. Then, there was also the boy, who claims to be Lizzie's brother, Prince Richard, who presumed dead, now mysteriously returns challenging Henry for the very crown on his head. So there you have it. The Yorks and The Tudors. And you thought your family was complicated..

LemonDrop Most or all of the marriages of the red queen were because of political alliance. Her first husband broke the law and gave her a child immediately because there must always be an heir to the family and the time is dangerous back then because of the many plagues. Her first husband died because of it and she almost didn't make it since she was only just thirteen back then and already carrying a child. Her next two husbands were also because of political alliance in order to protect Henry VII from the Yorks since he was seen as a threat to the crown as the only surviving heir of the Lancasters ( have the most claim) .
