The Danish Guards walking the streets of Copenhagen.
I found it funny how the Guards would stop at the traffic lights!
Thank you for taking the time to view my video
Filmed and Edited by Tony Bestmann
An 'Off the Rails' Production
The Royal Life Guards (Den Kongelige Livgarde) is an infantry regiment of the Danish Army, founded in 1658 by King Frederik III. It serves in two roles: as a front line combat unit, and as a guard/ceremonial unit to the Danish monarchy.
The Royal Life Guards provide a permanent guard at the Amalienborg Palace, Kastellet (part of the old fortification of Copenhagen), Rosenborg Castle/garrison of the Royal Life Guards in Copenhagen and the garrison of Høvelte.
On occasions guard is kept at Fredensborg Palace, Marselisborg Palace, Gråsten Palace, Christiansborg Palace and other locations inside the Danish realm.
The ordinary uniform of the Royal Life Guards while they are on guard duty is dark blue. Their full dress uniform is very similar to that of the Foot Guards regiments of the British Army: a scarlet or blue tunic; blue trousers; and a bearskin with the regiment's cap badge (the Sun and Royal Coat of Arms); together with the symbolic infantry sabre, which is part of the spoils from the First Schleswig War 1848-1850 and originally a French infantry sabre. During his time in the Danish forces, Crown Prince Frederik served a tour in the Royal Life Guards with the rank of Sergeant.
The regiment itself has three battalions:
1st Battalion (I Bataljon) - Founded 1658. Armoured Infantry Battalion, part of 2nd Brigade.
2nd Battalion (II Bataljon) - Founded 1867. Armoured Infantry Battalion, part of 2nd Brigade.
3rd Battalion (III Bataljon) - Founded 1923. Training Battalion.

I guess Denmark has the same rules as in Sweden. According to the traffic act a marching troop is regarded as a vehicle and obey by the same rules as any car. That said it is on their way to duty. They are not guarding the subject. When they do they will act as any military unit with the honourable task to protect

There are 3 levels of changing the guard, Kings Guard when the Queen is in residence, Lieutenants Guard if a lesser royal but not the Queen is in residence and Palace Guard when the place is empty. The first 2 march with full band and/or tambours (fifes and drums). Traffic is stopped for them. This is a Palace guard and since there is no one at the palace, in true Danish fashion, it would seem rude to inconvenience traffic. Pro Rege et Grege

For those who don't know, when a platoon marches like this (at least for here in Europe) we count as a road vehicle and must respect all traffic laws, so no walking on the sidewalk/pavement, no going down one way roads or through parks. The upside is you DO count as a priority vehicle, so at a crossroad you always have priority and if you reach a narrow road that can only admit one vehicle, the other vehicle has to back up

That is quite amusing to see the guards go along with the flow of automobiles traffic…..especially when they stopped at the red light. I can imagine the possible hilarious results of seeing them run against the red light as the same time with the usual red light runners only to be pulled over to the side of the road and issued a speeding ticket by a traffic cop.

And if an emergency vehicle is going to pass, should the guard also step aside? And what if there is traffic ahead, does the guard honk his horn? And if a guard in the formation hurts his leg, do they turn on their warning flashers? And if it is raining or it is at night, do they have front and rear lights per unit or only those that go in the corners of the formation? And if they go around a curve, the formation leans to one of its sides to take the curve well? so many questions and no one to answer seriously

@@lasselippert3892 People obsess over romantics because it inspires them. It's better to have morale than without. Romanticization is just reality but in good aspects, however, it should be for the individual to know what he/she is doing or believing such as for a good cause than to blindly follow, which unfortunately is a bit ironic as most of the case when it comes to romantics, it drives the audience to feel good and get them to follow it directly rather than considering it through first before enacting it so. I do, however, know my beliefs and am aware of the negatives of a monarchy of which can be put to discussion to attempt to constrain them from happening, and this applies to other political systems.

The King’s Hussar That was.. well thought out, and very well written. Certainly a lot better than I can do, even if english was my first language. But I’ll risk a reply anyway. First off, I can’t imagine any of us being swayed by the others view of the positive/negative aspects of the monarchy, so I’ll leave that alone (for now anyway). One thing you wrote I really take issue with though. You stated that “romanticization is just reality but in good aspects”. Isn’t that simply another way to describe historical (or political) bias? Whenever you promote one aspect of an issue and downplay or ignore the others, you’re surely skewing reality, thereby making it *not* reality. Going back to the the lads in their fancy pants,- I love history, but people who fetishize history usually bore or annoy me very quickly. And in my opinion thats what these uniforms (and the constitutional monarchy as a whole) represent. An idealized, and usually ill informed, fetishistic yearning for “The wonderful good old days. When everything was right with the world”.

If they are life guards why do they have guns, and not swimsuits?

How much do they get paid? Does it cover their healthcare or is that included?

Denmark has universal healthcare coverage, meaning you do not to pay for going to the hospital or your local doctor.
