I have the 20 inch SFAR .308 and have put 1000 rounds through it so far. I've tested 147gr all the way to 185gr factory ammo. The suppressor I use is the Radical Firearms Sinter 7.62 flow through. Early on I changed the gas block to the RifleSpeed and that fixed the gas issues. Setting 10 for unsuppressed, and setting 4 for suppressed (bump up to setting 5 as the carbon builds up between cleanings). Grouping has been as low as 0.4 MOA at 100 yds in a 5 shot group (Berger 185gr OTM factory load). Best 20 shot groups were with Federal SMK 168gr and 175gr (1 to 1.25 MOA solid hole in the target).

I have the SFAR .308 with a 20 inch barrel and it’s been an albatross for me! It shot pretty good the first 100 rounds, but after 200+ rounds I started having issues. One thing I can say is that Ruger does NOT know how to build an adjustable gas block. The number 1 setting is supposed to be for suppressors, 2 for normal shooting with standard loads, and 3 for abnormal/carbon buildup shooting. It got to the point where the 3 setting was causing jams. I did some research and eventually changed out the gas block with a Riflespeed with 12 settings to fine tune your settings between suppressed and unsuppressed as well as different powder loads. Bottom line: it’s a good thing the SFAR is inexpensive because you’re going to need $200+ to fix the gas block issues…and a few extra bucks to make it ambitious with safety selectors/mag releases and front flash suppressors/muzzle brake so you can mount your favorite silencer.
@billhicks34157 ай бұрын
Agreed 100%. My 20" SFAR in 308 was great for the first 350 rounds. Now it's having gas related issues. It's upsetting because I was quiet fond of the rifle. It's been very accurate too. I am getting 1.25 MOA groups with S&B 168 gr match ammo. I need to try changing the gas block on this thing because when it was working reliably the first 350 rounds, it was everything I wanted in a lightweight, hard hitting, semi auto.

I've seen this claim before and it really depends on how you define barrel life. The MATCH GRADE life is half. In terms of how long you'll be able to achieve reasonable accuracy? It will still last a decent amount of rounds. For what most people do with AR10s? It'll probably last the entire life of the owner because very few people are actually shooting large frame ARs over 1,000 rounds a year or even in their entire life. But even for people who are really hammering it, you'll still get like 3-4moa for a long time before the barrel is truly spent. That claim of "half the barrel life" originated from competition guys who want every round touching or preferably through the same ragged hole at 100m. Either way, if you can afford 15,000 rounds of 6.5 to burn out a barrel you can afford ~$350 for a Criterion 6.5 barrel.

@@smackdn7756 OK then let's go with common sence for the break in then also. It was one of the large complaints on this rifle were people.made that 7.62x51 were having trouble cycling on setting 2 out of the box. Mine cycles 7.62x51 fine on setting 2 and I honestly believe it is due to the break in on 3, I am glad that I watched videos on people with the SFAR and looked up complaints on it before I bought one so I knew what not to do during break in.

I have had 2 Aero disappointed in both, finally got my second one running consistent but way to many issues for rifle that cost 2k, My SFAR eats every type of ammo I toss at it, just doesn't care and have put around 460ish rounds through it no issues. Granted I might have just been lucky to get a very good one, and I broke it in as the manual said to.

Been thinking of buying this gun. But I kinda want a BM-59E lol

Maybe I'm wrong, but you stated that 6.5 was a spicier round, but all I've ever seen is the 308 having the muzzle energy advantage. Now at 1000 meters, sure the 6.5 will have more energy.

Before testing accuracy, I'd want to have a confirmed zero. While I think it does show a minor accuracy difference, I've had better groupings than this in 5 shot out of my 16" SFAR .308 with a proper confirmed zero at 100. Right under MOA using basic AAC 150gr and a 2-10 Viper FFP.

SFAR Short Frame Autoloading Rifle, it's not an AR10 actually. As far as ammo I will stick with .308 due to it being a NATO round and Ammo is plentiful

I'm getting a 16" in 308 . It's a battle rifle not made for precision. So 2moa good enough. I bet I could do under 2 moa for sure..

Great video! Good pricing but not accurate enough for anything serious

There's no question. 6.5 creedmore, is not a good battle rifle caliber. At typical engagement ranges, a battle rifle would be used for such as this, there's zero advantage 6.5 creed has over the 308. The 308 matches the creedmore on every range needed until you get into the far distance edges, of which you're not going to use a battle rifle for. 308 it's also widely used for machine guns on military applications, police applications, hunting applications, it's plentiful, relatively cheap in comparison and easy to find. There is absolutely no advantage or reason to use a creedmore n this type of platform.
