Yes, "even if you're Protestant...." As I am - and former Roman Catholic and aspiring Benedictine. I still have my cope of The Rule and read through it at least twice yearly. Great episode.

It takes the hard, persistent, repetitive effort by many people for many years to contribute towards something as simple and as miraculous as a human being giving a cup of water in service and in love. Don't knock it.

I believe it is all about discipline he learn when he was in the cave that why experience help he had to have rules so you don't have a choice but to have discipline you become humble and you find out quick it is all about God remember God has rule that what makes you grow spiritual we all have to start somewhere and he learn in being by him self in the cave remember he didn't have it all but God by his side and that makes you humble human being and you known then how much God love us that the same way are Lord did it following his Father Rules❤bless you all!!!

choosing god is something we are all called to do in every mundane experience of our lives in the world and there's no monopoly on that by religious orders, growing in spiritual maturity is what is supposed to happen to everyone in life...people who have kids, jobs, ill people, housebound people, sports people, rich people, ordinary people, god is talking and calling them all exactly where they are and working them through all their situations if they listen...and it's an insult to tell anyone they'd have to go be a priest or nun to 'choose' god, they are just one way of achieving the same thing

I'm listening to this for learning-history reasons instead of religious ones, and I appreciate the way this is mostly objective - though I had to laugh at "EVEN if you're PROTESTANT."

Intensify their interior peace. The vibrations of chanting and the physical postures adopted during the Divine Office and the Mass 8 times through the day makes for an intensely still mind and soul open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. It’s also a joyful activity, and science has shown intense benefits for human happiness from chanting. It also promotes gratitude since the monk understands himself as praying on behalf of all of those who can’t, and in thanksgiving for the gift of life on behalf of the whole human race. Lastly it means they memorise the Bible because all the chanted texts and spoken readings during Mass and the 7 Offices are passages of the Bible
