Ninh explains - The Rules of Judo. These are the new 2017 rules, the main changes are the following: They have abolished Yuko's, two Waza-Ari no longer equals Ippon, both men and women now compete in 4 minute bouts and Shido's are carried over from normal time. This is to simplify the sport to make it easier for the casual spectator to understand when watching this on TV.

To my understanding, doing something like a morote gari is illegal in competitions because it will lead injuries. It most likely started back in the late 1890s when Mataemon Tanabe, a jujutsuka of the Fusen-ryū style, took part of a exhibition match in Kyoto. His opponent was Yuji Hirooka, a jujutsuka of the Kasumi Shin-ryū style and 3rd dan judoka. At the end of the match, Tanabe won by scoring a morote gari and applying an ashi garami, a variation of an ankle lock. Although Hirooka gave up, his leg broke as a result. At the next reunion at the Butoku Ka, Kano Jigoro, the founder of Judo, proposed to forbid any leglocks in future regular jujutsu/judo competitions due to the possibility of lasting damage. Both Tanabe and Kaisuke Masuda, a jujutsuka of the Shinnuki-ryū style, object to this, stating Judo is as dangerous as Jujutsu. However, both were overruled.

You can’t grab the leg?

Nope.

Not anymore. Grabbing the legs was banned completely in 2009. Before that, judo had double legs, single legs, and pickups just like wrestling. Now, they're just techniques you learn for your belt test.

Well spotted! I like that part of the video - it shows the mental aspect of Judo. Thanks for stopping by.

Why do football (soccer) supporters have so many scaves ?
@NinhLyUK7 жыл бұрын
Usually for two reasons - one, it's a winter sport and it's usually cold. And two, it's a way of showing support by waving, holding them in the air (look up 'Liverpool's You'll Never Walk Alone' and you'll see what I mean).
