I am living in Canada too and I feel you. After the Cold War, the Western bloc was so powerful that no one stood against it. It's why Putin is pushing the multipolar world order so smaller countries can voice their ideas without fear of being sanctioned or worse (being invaded) by NATO. The internet and media also play an important role but it still somehow controlled by the government. I must say regarding the freedom of speech, we are no better than Russia or China.

I'm a former British soldier. I left 20 years ago, after tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm not surprised nobody wants to join. They treat the native population like undesirables in their own country. Veterans are treated with suspicion and offered no help at all. We're at the back of the queue for everything except when it comes to paying for it all. Who would want to fight for a country with open borders?

You are absolutely right. Very few militaries have the whole package, size, weaponry, skills and experience. Indian army, I am afraid, is not upto the mark. It's military has been politicized and corrupted. I was shocked to learn that the present govt decided to make major changes. Only a small procent are professional most are recruits with a 4 year deployment. After that they are no longer in the army and will take civiluan jobs.

Turkey is fighting against Kurdish groups both within the country and beyond its borders for the last forty years and this transformed the Turkish army a lot in time. Mi dear friend! The so called "Revolutie" resulted in the fall of the Ceausist dictatorship has absolutely nothing to do with the USSR. Instead it has been a coup d'état (lovitura de stat) orchestrated by "western" forces and interest. If Russia had anything to do with it, was only the attempt to prevent it. We've seen the same scenario emerging all across the Soviet Bloc/Communist Bloc (post communist countries today) The only difference I guess is that Romania had its unfortunate bloody way to do it. ALL the countries of Eastern Bock have been detached from USSR and thrown to (for) the west as easy targets. Only after the total destruction of their economies.

Sebastian, Putin signed a decree today regarding the army staff. That's what I saw on another channel. The Russian army is now 2 million 385 thousand. By the way, most Russians in the army have had at least 1 or 2 years of real war experience, whereas NATO countries are still doing the occasional exercise, just to show that they are ready far war.

It seems they have started to realize that. A few days ago some drones were shot down near Murmansk, Russia. A Finnish politician claimed that they were launched from Finland. Soon after the Finnish PM, for the first time, said that Finland will not launch any attacks from its terrotories and will not allow Finland to be used for attacking Russia. I think all this is a result of President Putin's warning, that Washington has taken seriously. The about turn re long distance missile attack is the result. With US not willing to escalate, Finns may have had a second thought. Swedes still hiding their head in the sand. Not for long though.
