you mean when they get close to enemies or spikes but take no damage. I believe that Sonia has an insta-shield (you can hear a sound and see Sonia's animation change mid-jump) and they used that to mitigate quite a bit of damage during this playthrough

I know this is VERY late, but he is, you have to use the Double Menu Theme, then use the level select code on the start screen after exiting the options menu. I hope you enjoyed the game, as I did too!
