What an awesome find! Late last year I bought a Model 686 no dash 2.5" Lew Horton, unfired, in the original box with paperwork, from the original owner. I was just like you. I couldn't stop fondling it and I really couldn't believe I was able to score it before anyone else. I did end up firing twenty rounds through it before I detail cleaned it and put it away. I haven't shot it since that day, but now I can't claim it to be unfired. Oh well. You have an awesome revolver and thanks for sharing it!

I have a 624 3” barrel and I love it! It’s the same as your Lee Horton but in stainless. Shoots like a dream and you will never get enough!!

I concealed carried a 4" Model 24 .44SPL from time to time awhile back. I'm only 5'10" and it wasn't too difficult. However, I only pulled it off in the winter time when wearing a jacket or coat. It must be said tho that saying "I can conceal carry" whatever large pistol is easy....actually being able to quick draw a large pistol or revolver is altogether a different matter. I prefer to carry revolvers with a 3" in the winter and in hot Texas summers I'm usually armed with a 2" snubnose .38SPL. Whatever I carry and whatever the weather, being able to fast draw is most important factor over power or capacity.

I have one of these in the box with the tools. I think the first 2000 came with a custom smith and Wesson holster. Mine didn’t come with it, but I found one on eBay. If you do find one they’re expensive. I have shot mine because it had been fired, but not excessively. Being there was 5000 made it’s uncommon, but not rare enough not to shoot. As long as you don’t abuse it you’re not going to ruin the value. I will say it’s a tac driver. If you think you’re in love with it now, wait until you shoot jt. Congratulations on the find

Actually, I have no problem with this as a concealed carry option. I have an AIWB holster and it works very well. Love this gun.

If it's a question of value and money, you can still shoot it and sell it for what you paid. You will fall in love with it. I bought a used Model 24-3 25 yrs ago and the blueing is still gorgeous. It's a tack driver. Around 1985 Lew Horton dropped 2.5" 629s and 657s and at gun shows they were 289.00 all day long. I was 21 and just didn't have the money. I so wanted one of each just like a I'd like an early 70s Corvette. For me it's about getting something I wanted when I was younger and could not afford. I'd have shot the crap out of 'em back then but barring stupidity I'd still have them. If you like pristine safe queens, put it away. If you're a shooter, have some fun with it. I used to have a couple of Model 66s that were nicely optioned, one was a Minnesota State Police trade-in complete with the recessed chambers. I miss that gun but I was stupid and would love to find another. An unscrupulous pawn shop got it. Again, my stupidity.

If it were me, I would put that S&W model 42-3 in the safe for now, and just do some thinking. If I need money for another project, I would sale off the Taurus revolvers first. That S&W model 24-3 revolver, you will never see that kind of quality workmanship again, it is like a fine piece of jewelry, it will only increase in value, whether it is fired or not.

Good looking pistol. I did manage to get my hands on one A couple of weeks ago. No box or paperwork It’s a stainless, my question is how do you know it is one of the 5000 that came from Lew Horton. I cannot find any solid information on my 624 if it’s one of the 5000. Thanks for the video.

What a great gun! I am a fan of the 44 spl but choices have been slim.. I have shot 44 mag since the 70's and never shoot 44 spl in them had bulldogs but never a fan. Now I have an Uberti 1873 SAA clone that is fantastic... fit and finish are fantastic and with a 4.75" barrel it is accurate in the extreme. My load for 44 spl is the 240-250 grain cast and HT coated bullet at 800-875 fps (depending on barrel length) I sympathize on the warning label crap... My guns are mostly old enough and beyond LOL that they don't have it. but.... if a gun is so rare it belongs in a museum? If it belongs to me? I will shoot it. Oh... I have a 'Falco' shoulder holster.... it is unique in that the top of it swivels about 30 degrees for a smooth draw. it fits my 629 6"

If you want to keep it I’d go on the smith forum and ask if someone has a used one. They can trade you the new one plus some cash of course, since yours is nicer and pristine, and then you shoot their already shot one with no guilt. You said 5,000 made that a decently big number.

Hey I recently went looking for a 44 Magnum and all and I believe I found something similar to that it's a six shot 44 special it says special not 44 Magnum do you think it's worth getting he has it priced at $850 but it comes with with different grips like aftermarket grips I think somebody might have changed it but I know for a fact it says 44 Smith and Wesson special not Magnum

Okay I'm going to get it thank you for your opinion I've been very indecisive because I really wanted to get a 44 magnum like Dirty Harry and I've been searching everywhere for one for the right price but I came around a pawn shop and I found a 44 Smith & Wesson special and at first I thought it was a 44 magnum so I was jumping out for joy but then when I went looking for the model number it came up as something else but I think I'm going to add it to my collection it's not the 44 Magnum and hopefully I'll be able to find ammunition for it too but I'm going to add it to my collection

@@dobertymenejias5913 you are going to be very happy with a 44 special. It’s a common handgun round you can get ammunition for it and you can get reloading components and brass without much trouble. It’s a very good gun for self-defense with power on power with the 45 automatic. it is a large revolver however, the Smith & Wesson model 24 are very well-made and it’s an outstanding addition to a collection. In my eyes, it’s far more desirable than a 44 magnum.

I am not a collector so I would shoot it, as I am a shooter. It's like marrying a beautiful Swedish bikini blond model. Would you not consummate your marriage or would you keep her in pristine condition and not touch her. I have money to buy the most expensive guns I desire but I would never buy one and not shoot it. There are far more better investments out there than guns. Beautiful gun by the way.

There's something wrong with it now. When you closed it you spun the cylinder backwards, scoring the cylinder. If you're a collector you should know better.
