You also have to notice that even in a “traitor” hive, the underhive usually has billions of loyalists waiting to a moment to strike. Also the crusade force has orbital weapons. The same way how chaos can take over a hive city with 20,000 traitor guardsmen. In your average “loyalist” hive there are billions of people who would spend their lives to overthrow the government. It really is who has the guns in space, the ability to make a rallying strike and control the plebs.

20 thousand men gone, plus all of their ships, all of their equipment bar a singular tank, no signs of combat, spilt blood or even that they were ever there apart from said singular tank... this requires further theory crafting so Arch I would like to see a theory video on The Mystery Of Fornax Aleph, as it is extremely interesting in trying to figure out what exactly happened there, apart from well the obvious statement, Chaos did it.
@otaviolobo79896 ай бұрын
Before the chaos reveal, I would have thought this was a Dark Eldar opportunistic attack, maybe a carnival of pain.
@thegrandnope71436 ай бұрын
@@otaviolobo7989 the issue is however, the Dark Eldar would of left signs of a battle, someone would called over the radio, someone would have barricaded themselves inside a Hab Block and forced a fight, this is why it's so interesting, because not a singular blood stain, weapon impact, corpse or even wreckage, apart from that one intact tank with a calcified hand in it, was found, and not just that the entire naval contingent and the transports were also gone, with the Iron Snakes finding or believing to have found, a ship that threw itself into the the sun. So whatever happened to the 20,000 is making me intrigued, unless Trazyn rocked up, saw 20,000 guardsmen, plus ships and tanks, and decided he needed to begin his Sabbat Worlds Crusade exhibit with these men and material, so unless thats what happened this requires further theory crafting.
@otaviolobo79896 ай бұрын
@@thegrandnope7143 You didn't watch Arch's video on the Dark Eldar? An Haemunculus did exactly the same thing. He sent his forces, conquered the planet, kidnapped everyone, AND THEN, repaired everything, removed EVERY SINGLE TRACE of evidence, damage, bloodstain and hair strings from the floor before simply leaving the planet. This fits the situation here to a perfect match. Hell, the Haemunculus covens even have an weapon that calcifies its targets (read osseficator), so what the heck? But yeah, beyond that, I do wonder how Chaos pulled this off. I mean, I hate how "uniform" and "standardised" Chaos Daemons are in tabletop terms where each of the four gods factions are monotone. It limits imagination to a degree. At same time, by not limiting chaos to certain rules, its nigh impossible to theory-craft on what could have happened from a daemon/warp fuckery pespective as basically anything goes with them. Calcification can be anything from Tzeentch to Slaanesh's doing, which is strange considering Khorne is the main god among the anarchs.

It always amuses me, within 40k universe, when I hear that 20 000 men were third of a force designated to take a planet, especialy hive world. In 40k, guard begin relatively low tech, rely-on-numbers force, we should be talking about millions and billions every time we discuss things like planet invasions. This is not critique of Arch, just pointing out this flaw in the lore, that really breaks imersion for me. That begin said, some campaings and authors do better job (Armegeddon, Vracks) than others in this regard. Little bit of math just for fun: We have to assume hive world population begin in 10b+ category given what we see today on earth. Even for plantes with smaller land mass/hostile enviroments, for hives to emerge, population density must be a major concern, that drives vertical building and crowding into hives. For major hive worlds, pop numbers are probably in 50b+ category (Though I consider 500b of Ichar IV not possible within 40k context, this is not dyson cloud setting, and grain transport trough void is nonsensse) If we go with lowball figure of 10b people on hive world, and assume chaos begin able to control it for relavively short time in case of Sabbat worlds, we can estimate, they can reach some 2b people with their messaging and propaganda (esencially only begin present in major hives, and convincing/coercing 50% of population there to do their bidding). Now lets assume, only 1% of these people are willing to fight for their new gods, that still means there will be 20 MILLION cultists on the hive world. If the guard wants to play it safe, and given the dificulties of urban(hive) combat, we can assume they would bring usual 5:1 overwhelimng force, meaning we get 100 MILLION guardsmen in 20 THOUSAND regiments doing the assault. And if you think that is absurd, consider WW2, that in this setting would be planetary civil war, not even involving all of the countries, where some 120 MILLION men were mobilized in total, and around 60 MILLION people died (including civilians) Modern war is hell War in 40k would be worse

So, let me make sure I understand... Orbital battle stations, bristling with weapons, targeting sensors, layers of redundant shields, and acres of armor, and designed for zero other reason than to make incoming enemy fleets regret their life choices and stop them cold before they get anywhere near the target planet, are really just short-ranged speed bumps that practically any task force with even a halfway decent commander can more or less pick apart with impunity if he isn't horrifically pressed for time. Ground-based laser defenses, though, like the ones ringing the citadel of Vraks, added as a vanity project by a forgotten governor of an industrial armpit world more to break the tedium of managing a glorified warehouse than any other reason, which have to fire through an atmosphere and compete with the infrastructure needs of a hive ? _Those_ are an existential threat to any warship that pokes its nose over the horizon, which is why the Navy couldn't bombard the hive and the Guard had to bleed its way forward on the ground. Make it make sense.
@shadowraven32536 ай бұрын
For point 1: A task force will have torpedos which can be fired at maximum range on a stationary, huge target. More of a target practice competition than anything else. There could also be a nova canon on one of the bigger ships of the fleet, which if i remind you fire pretty much miniature...well...supernovas at a target. On their own a station lacks the range as it will mostly have lances, cannons and maybe a few of it's own torpedo launchers for which you'd have to turn the entire station to use. Highest range weapons would then be fighters/bombers which the station can't cover. A ring of fortifications also including mines and maybe even more rare defences can hold of assaults for a long time like the iron cage in the war for badab, but they need mobile elements to draw in the enemy mobile elements. As Arch said: the attacker can withdraw if damaged, the fortress sits there and maybe bolt on new plates where it was hit. For point 2: To get a ''good'' firing solution you have to get within range of said defences on a planet (orbital lasers, missiles or fighters/bombers from airfields) which are then also protected by voidshields (especially as it was a not insignificant warehouse) within in this case the main fortress where everything of value was. Especially in the case we talk about the imperial forces where also pretty much on top of the target and no one wants to hear that they just took out a company of ALLIED soldiers cause they missed their target by a few kilometers (so a hairs width in void terms) cause they thought that they could get their hands on the stored armament as it was ''just a small rebellion of a single world which was led by a priest''.

Love the vud, but the eight bit animated gif is distracting. Def prefer the old school art.

Nice to see the complete depopulation by of a Hive World by Chaos will not stop repopulation drives. Thanks for the video.

Fantastic work as always, sir. However, I am distraught by the numbers of the story. 20,000 men to secure a hive city? Quite laughable. As usual the writing is one perhaps two orders of magnitude short.

You can trust Arch to always produce bias story telling. His most favorite things to hate on are noble people who earned their position through lifetimes of virtue or chaos for being less evil than Imperium. In this case, being jealous and unable to differentiate between long term achievements of a regiment and a person. Yes, to a noble victories are all, but handed. This is because they do necessary work before the actual challenge emerge. In this case, properly equipping, supporting and staffing with finest of men their own regiments. Then why you are so surprised that when leading a regiment which has done everything right results in an easy victory? This is the work of a nobleman. Through his virtue he does everything right. On the contrary, peasant politicians are constantly meddling into affairs of a military. Competence is rarity. It is always under-equipped and unmotivated. It is always led to outright slaughter and then wonderment why their infantry fights so much poorer than that of noble regiments. This is why. You lead your men to ruin and then get jealous of ones which lead their men to success.
