Daron: The one responsible for soad being on hiatus is Serj. But he's cool. Still tho. Shavo: Yeah. We're still good friends, but except for him, the entire band wants this to happen. Darren took over the most of it, he wanted rock and roll content while clearly Serj wanted to change for a less "metal" music, basically Serj did it for the friendship and it turned out very successful more than he ever expected, even with all that he decided to step off, sadly
@kristygalbavy5253
@kristygalbavy5253 2 жыл бұрын
Not clashing, they wrote & harmonized beautifully together & that's what brought them together in the first place. Someone just got a bigger head then the rest and thinks he needs to control, write, make more money then the rest, and even do more lead singing. That's the ultimate problem, hopefully one day he will realize thats not cool. Serj has a much better vocal range anyway, still to this day.

Agreed. If they want to release solo music then so be it. When you look at their projects you get to see their influence on the 5 albums. And man I became a much bigger fan of daron when he went on, to me his rock continued to evolve while serj did other stuff, which shows how different he can get years apart. Shavo is a fantastic editor and producer, and John, well I'm glad he's teaching a drum class after he was done with scars on broadway, I think passing on his style is great considering there are alot of drummers who just get hammered and smash the set while he was always on note, rhythm and never messes up live haha

I met these guys in early 2000 at a Rock of Ages record store, signing posters and stuff. This was right before they blew up and became huge. I attended a show later that night at Harpo's (SOAD, Fear Factory, Zak Wilde) and I remember smoking a cigarette outside in the parking lot next to their tour bus and the drummer was inside, alone. I talked to him for a few minutes through a small window on the bus and I asked him why he was by himself and he said that Detroit scared the shit out of him and he didn't feel safe leaving the tour bus.

I'm fairly content with SOAD not putting out a new album tbh. They have a flawless discography already that we can all listen to and appreciate over and over again, perfect songs from a perfect era of their creativity as artists. I would not want them to put out a reunion album in 2020 and it be vastly different from their original sound. They have grown as artists doing their own thing, and i say just let it be. Even Tool not releasing an album for so many years is not so upsetting either. They gave us masterpiece quality albums years ago, and it's alright if they've moved on in their vision.
@meowtherainbowx4163
@meowtherainbowx4163 5 жыл бұрын
I feel like if they force themselves to make an album, it will be a lot more forgettable. They’ve already lost a lot of mainstream appeal just by virtue of being inactive for so long and coming from an era when alt-metal was really popular. Also, it will divide fans because it will probably sound quite different. Bands like SOAD succeeded because they were fresh and unique, but now everyone has certain expectations of them, and many will inevitably be displeased. Furthermore, if they don’t even really want to make this album with all this BS going on, they’re not going to write their best material. If they were slightly more able to compromise on an album, it might be worth it, but let’s not act like it would have been a huge tour-de-force like _Toxicity_ was. It would have probably just pleased half of the fans and not many others.

+Derrick Swinney I don’t understand why people say that. It sounded like they went in some great new directions while still keeping the vital elements that made them great. Serj is right. Even though in most bands I've been in, I have written more than half the music myself, so I stand only to lose by my upcoming argument; it is wrong to assume that it wasn't that bass line, or that drum part that is what really hooked people into the song, and why it was a such a success. But no, they give all the credit to whoever wrote the lyrics, chord structure and melody, and to hell with all the other parts that are often even more of the songs success. Let alone the performance of the musician who played the part on the record. Sometimes that is even the producer or engineer. But all too often all the credit goes to the _"writer"_ only, even though other _"wrote"_ their own parts. In most bands the drummer comes up with the drum part, the bassist _"writes"_ the bass part and so on. Seriously, even for you guitarists (like me), should you not get paid for coming up with a good solo? As Serj says, equal publishing split. Or at least reflect *all* of the work people put into a record, not *just certain elements.*

Aylbdr Madison Well said! I’ve been in the same position for years, it’s a bit of a dual edged sword, as a songwriter it’s hard to give up pieces of your creation, but as you said, it’s often those additional parts which make your song really come alive, and deserve to be credited. I did it for my first two albums, but with a revolving door of musicians it became a logistical nightmare to deal with, and so after that although I still retained the band name, I no longer had band members and had all the guys as hired players who got paid session fees and an equal share of live performance returns... but with no long term ownership to any of the songs.... it’s worked well, but by that same token, we were only ever moderately successful so never had the ‘big’ money issues to deal with or fight over. I’m fairly sure that my hired guns actually made more out of the deal than I have hahaha.

Releasing an album after so many years is a lose/lose situation for most bands but especially hugely popular bands (unless it’s only about the money). Better to be remembered for your greatness. I think this applies most of all to Soad since it’s obvious their hearts aren’t really in it anymore.

I'm 57 years old and never really considered myself as a Hard Rock guy, mostly into Classic Rock. But, back around 2006 timeframe, I was taking my son and his best friend to the YMCA two nights a week and they always wanted to play their music. Suffice it to say, they played a lot of SOAD and I remember thinking this was pretty damn good stuff. To this day, I have several of their songs on my MP3 player and love to jam on them while working out. I also listen to them in my car, often! I think a lot of guys my age have missed the boat by not keeping an open mind when it comes to Hard Rock bands, you just never know what gems you might find....

MrJonnyYen I don’t like the idea of having to or being pressured into writing music similar to older stuff. Sadly that’s how it often works with artists... If a band releases the same sounding stuff, it’ll get boring. But if they release something different, people are going to criticize it. SOAD most likely won’t be able to make something that gives fans the same feeling that their old stuff did. Toxicity has too big of a shadow to fill. Musicians sometimes have to deal with this, unfortunately... Pink Floyd comes to mind. That being said, they don’t necessarily need to try and recreate that magic. It’s always possible an artist can do and give something different. Maybe it won’t be the same as the old days, but sometimes change can be a good thing. If every album sounded the same, music would get boring. What I hope for in a hypothetical future album from SOAD is something that all of them like and are proud of. They’re great songwriters and musicians, and I have faith that if they like it, I’ll like it too. That being said, it’s possible they’ll never get to that point where they can creatively agree on an album. I would rather them not release anything than release something any of them aren’t happy with. My two cents on this. Make of it as you will.

Bands are a complexity of relationships. I LOVE SOAD. If the band of brothers has to go their separate ways in order to preserve their brotherhood, then so be it. I applaud this decision, as well as their unshakable grasp on the love and respect they have for each other. Maybe t6heir individual paths will come full circle and bring them back to the studio as SOAD in the future.

These guys hit the perfect combination of talent, sound, style and most importantly, TIMING when they went big. It all aligned so perfectly with the way rock was evolving and what people were hungry to hear. They became huge in that short-lived weird spot in the 90s where you have multiple different types of rock all competing for which one would be dominant" Nu-Metal, Punk was causing waves again, grunge was beginning to peter out, and System came along with this absolutely bizarre mash-up of all of these sounds with strong social commentary and a political message to boot. It was almost like destiny for them to be a global phenomenon. I've always been saddened by the way that they just kind of dissipated. I still believe that if all parties were motivated enough, we could have got a couple more really solid, classic albums out of System before they all agreed to hang it up for good. Such amazing talent from every single member, there was no dead weight in that band.

I love Daron, but to be honest i agree with Serj, and understand his side. I've been googling "system of a down news" and following every single little thing they've done solo, with the hope of new music, but i gotta admit, Daron's musical input is what made SOAD, but he has changed with the years, and as you can hear from Serj, he actually wrote the actual Scars songs as SOAD songs, and to be honest, a lot of them are not suitable, in my humble opinion, for SOAD. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE Dictator. But the closest thing to a SOAD album would be a piece of Elect the Dead's raw and schizophrenic sound, mixed with aggressive riffs from Daron, in the style of Angry Guru, or Sickening Wars, mixed with their other influences such as armenian, greek, etc. Serj can't growl for shit anymore, so take that out of the equation, it won't be a self titled HEAVY AS FUCK album, but i can imagine it being more of a Question!/Hypnotize harmonized and melodic, yet heavy and meaningful kind of sound. I'd love to hear something like that. Hope they get together creatively soon. I'll just keep googling for SOAD news as i always do.

There's a technique that I use that I know surge uses, it's kinda hard to explain but here it goes.. You simply inhale alot of wind while at the same time creating a sound effect that makes it sound like a hardcore growll, it sounds amazingly heavy on a micc🎤 no damage at all to your vocal chords

@@Teh3aZ Nope, not a vocal coach, but i am a singer, and inhale growls are not real growls and lack a lot of 'body', it's an effect, not a technique. His voice has gotten too nasal. Daron wanting more money because "I wrote more" Daron saying "I get all the press" And let me say... having a song you came up with get morphed into something you don't like... that really hits home. Why doesn't anyone ever mention Shavo's deleted Facebook rants calling out Serj in May 2013? He wanted to possibly replace Serj completely, and throw him out the band... A whole 5 years before Daron even said a word? But Darons the bad guy and Serj is saint? I thought it would have been brought up here? This should be unbiased. Here's 1 part of what ShavO put on Facebook: ok..... Ill come clean.. Its not us(meaning Daron,John Or Shavo!! Its Sej, who doesn' want to do a new album!!!! so please stop harassing us about it!!! We are just waiting for SERJ! Now He might hate me for exposing the truth but i Had too.. Sorry folks!!! we're trying to get a new album out, its just not passing Serj's RULES! . I'm ready to release one with someone who wants to be the singer of SYSTEM. not soeome we have to beg to be a part of SYSTEM!! So with that in mind, what do you guys w should do? Just remember, Hes been holding us back for 7 years so far.. wanna wait another $-5 years? or shall we release a record without Serj? u tell us????? I dont want to make a record without him... but if he's not down? should the 3 of us just sit and wait?? Not cool!!!!!!!! i want the fans from all over the world including Brazil to tell us what they think. No System? or System with with a new singer whos just as good if not better? PLUS new System songs and tours???? please give me ur opinion people!!! is SYSTEM better with no singer or someone who is excited to be our new singer?? you decide.. cause im confused!!! no diss to Serj.. If he wants to be in the band then he's welcome but if he's not? what do you expect us 3 to do.?? we really want anorther System Record! wish Serj was down but if hes not, then im going ahead and making a System record without him!!! im furious that he let us down like this, but we gotta do something to keep this great band alive!!! agreed????????
