My husband gave me a choice 20 years ago when he realized just how addicted I was to painkillers. I chose him. I handed him the bottle and never regretted my choice. I didn’t go to rehab or counseling. I beat that demon with my husband’s help. My mom was a psych nurse and my father was a retired preacher and at that time he was a psychologist that specialized in alcohol and drug addiction. But like I said. My husband saved me from myself and refused to enable me!!

As someone who is 5 years sober from crack, coke and a plethora of different pills, I second this. If you're going through the struggle, just know you are not alone. There's people out there who love you, and so many people who can relate to what you go through. Keep up the fight, it is worth it.

You can never cure addiction. It's a matter of fighting every day and steering clear of temptation. But every day is a fight, one that you'll never be completely free of. That demon will always hang on your back, and you need to shoulder it, lest you let it crawl up your back and into your head.

My fiancé is good friends with Mic DeVine, the actor, & he is NOT an addict IRL. He’s actually a rapper as well, & has been friends with Joyner for DECADES!! Our friend Dave Fournier passed away from an overdose, which prompted Mic to write a rap/song about how bad it is in Worcester, MA when it comes to addiction, OD’s, & deaths. Mic’s song is on KZbin, as well, but it hasn’t gotten the recognition that it deserves. A lot of people have said that they can’t find his song, so I made public play list. It’s definitely worth a listen! ❤

I lost my best friend February 28th 2024 to a relapse not long after completing an over a year long stay in a sober house. He was so very proud of himself when he got the certificate for completing it. But I'll never forget my girlfriend calling me sobbing at midnight to tell me he was found dead, the way she said it will forever be burned in my head. 2 months ago, we held a celebration of life for him, and after coming home from it my girl and I stumbled across this song within half an hour of leaving the celebration. It really felt like we were meant to hear this song, everytime the camera starts panning into the house and Joyner is next to the body I get chills through my whole body. I also can see it from the addicts point of view, I've been a little over 5 years clean off of some hard stuff, it very easily could have been me that was gone with my loved ones left behind. Everyone is fighting their own demons, some just aren't as lucky in their fight as others.. Rest in paradise Derek 🕊🙏4/18/90 - 2/28/24🙏🕊

Britt, I know how much you like a good story, so this is one of my favorites; Have you ever wondered who first uttered the phrase 'You Gotta Be Shittin Me'? Well, it just so happens to have originated through the Father of Our Country, way back when George Washington was crossing the Delaware River with his troops. There were 33 (remember this number) in Washington's boat. It was extremely dark and storming furiously and the water was tossing them about. Finally, Washington grabbed Corporal Peters (remember this name) and stationed him at the front of the boat with a lantern. He ordered him to keep swinging it, so they could see where they were heading. Corporal Peters, through driving rain and cold, continued swinging the lantern back and forth, back and forth. Then a big gust of wind and a wave hit and threw Corporal Peters and his lantern into the Delaware . Washington and His troops searched for nearly an hour trying to find Corporal Peters, but to no avail. All of them felt terrible, for the Corporal had been one of their favorites. Sometime later, Washington and his troops landed on the other side, wet and totally exhausted . He rallied the troops and told them that they must go on. Another hour later, one of his men said, 'General, I see lights ahead.' They trudged toward the lights and came upon a huge house. What they didn't know was that this was a house of Ill Repute, hidden in the forest to serve all who came. General Washington pounded on the door, his men crowding around him. The door swung open, and much to his surprise stood a beautiful woman. A huge smile came across her face, to see so many men standing there. Washington was the first to speak, 'Madam, I am General George Washington and these are my men. We are tired , wet, exhausted , and desperately need warmth and comfort.' Again, the Madam looked at all the men standing there, and with a broad smile on her face, said, 'Well, General, you have come to the right place. We can surely give you warmth and comfort. How many men do you have?' Washington replied , 'Well, Madam, there are 32 of us without Peters.' And the Madam said, 'You gotta be shittin me.'
