I've been in the tech industry for 10 years and I say this coming a while ago and prioritized saving for rainy times. Really, did people think that it was going to last forever? The tech job frenzy was not sustainable and the market is drying up.

Ya dude, it was kind of a long lasting "bubble"

Keep working on yourself. Try to be in the best position for when things go good and bad. Things never stay the same for very long.

It's super important to focus on what we actually have control over

Im guessing a lot of developers suddenly realized they are full stack. It's pretty stressful to be the one guy at the company.

Yupe! IT and Tech jobs out here in California are paying 30%-50% less in 2024 than in 2021 and 2022, which really sucks!! Most of us can't find a job in IT-Tech that easily, anymore!

Ya man, the market is crazy, but not impossible. I've recently been looking into adding more novel skillsets, and also changing my cost of living. That way I can apply to different types of tech jobs (because of the new skills), and also pay less overhead every month.

You are correct its highly volatile; it makes me think I'm better off avoiding the mainstream and either look at maintain infrastructure code, current trending innovations (risc-V), or something completely foreign.

I like your train of thought. The challenging times are forcing tech professionals to think outside the box.

It's about to get much worse with the apparent stock market crash :X

I'd like to see what happens, we'd been picking up head winds of a recession as early as late 2022 and 2023 in the tech industry. There was over 300,000 and something thousand layoffs in that time frame so we may have just been some of the first to be hit. Hopefully that will be it.

Concentrate on many specialist areas and you will be indispensable. For example, if you are a trained electrician and can program control systems, HMI, SCADA and robots, you can replace 9 SIEMENS employees.

Demand for AI contractors has really dropped off in the last 6-12 months. And most of what is left of demand is for chatbots... 🙄

>not good to be bombarded >from a psychological standpoint Honestly, still better than being bombarded in a literal sense like people in Ukraine. I feel like the whole world just going down the drain and tech industry is simply no exception

I really appreciate that, and for your time watching it! It seemed risky at first just talking straight into the camera with a minimal script
