Billy Stewart was an underrated artist who's music was great, but his recognition is still unheard. There are a lot of artists who been in show business for many years and still haven't received the props they deserve.

Earth, Wind & Fire's founder Maurice White was a studio drummer for Chess Records during the 1960's. He played behind Billy Stewart on "Summer Time" and other recordings. He also played the drums on Fontella Bass' "Resue Me" also for Chess.

He was big with the chollos. My aunt married my uncle herman and his military friends would come to our house on the weekends, start a big bon fire, cook up Carne asada and tortillas and drink bottomless beer and man!!! Billy Stewart playing LOUD!! I was 8 but that was one of the best times of my life!

Great article. The first time I heard Billy Stewart was in 1965. His voice and musical style was "other Worldly". We had never heard any other singer like him. He remains at the pinnacle of Soul Music. And in my mind, his only equal was Walter Jackson. Thanks for article. He does deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A friend of mine had Billy play his high school dance in North Carolina in 1969. Billy had two acts, one was a "blue" act for adults lonely. However, Hambone, his keyboards player, decided to start telling the dirty joke which caused the teens to flip out and principal rush the stage. What a night !

I'll always associate Billy Stewart's "I Do Love You", with Smokey's "Ooh Baby Baby", and Gene Chandler's "Nothing Can Stop Me". The year was 1965 and I was a young teenager exploring/experiencing the people and places around me. Such good memories! ❤

Oh wow, some time ago I asked my pops about the "I do love you," joint. I was familiar with G.Q's version that was put out when I was a kid. I would hear Billy's version much later into my young adult years, yet I was so impressed. I still loved G.Q.'s version but the original by Billy had it's own unique feel to it that I appreciated even more. I know that R&B music in 1965 when it was released had a lot of other nice joint out including, "My Girl" by the Temptations. Yet my pops confirmed that "I do love you," was indeed a staple on radio stations and at house parties back then. Of course I would realize that G.Q. also did nice rendition of another Billy Stewart song as well (Sitting in the Park). I hated to hear of the tragedy that struck him and others at the end. Yet his music will continue to play on. Much respect!

Hi🙂👋. I've never heard of Billy Stewart either. Need to check him out.👌.I don't believe the Big Bopper is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame either.🤔. Sad how they omit some. Did you hear Otis Redding the third passed. My sister sent me a text yesterday. He had cancer, he was only 59. Being the son of Otis Redding Jr. Should had more mention. Today I heard. His Funeral will be Private. He did follow in his Fathers footsteps. I'm sure Mrs Velma Redding is Heart Broken. To lose Big O and now her Son that she named after her husband. This is just a notice to pay Respect to both Father and Son. Since I too was born in Macon Georgia. Otis Redding Jr. Or the Big O he was called. Sad. I don't mean to be Disrespectful. But Everybody knows Otis Redding Jr. His music still being played. He's one of Macons Son. We all Remember Big O Died in the plane crash. Since you mentioned him here. I just thought I'd Mention his Sons passing. RIP to Otis Redding Jr and Otis Redding the third.🕊🕯🦋🌠🌻✨💖💖🌹🌹💐💐.🙏🙏. Also Giving some Respect to Billy Stewart. 🕊🕯🦋🌠🌻✨💖🌹💐🙏. You do a Wonderful Job of telling us about Amazing Artist, Mention those who have Passed. I never Heard of him. I plan to Check out Billy Stewart and his music.👍. Thank you. Love, respect and positivity always. Neita. ✌💜🕯🙏🦋🌠🌻✨. 🙂👋👣. .

OMG 😮WOW😮 not Billy not Fat Boy. He was one great artist that did not get the recognition he deserved. Once when I was working this young lady tried to challenge me over I Do Love You when GQ recorded it. They were good But Billy was the master.. I told her she need to go home and check with her mama. I’m not sure which one of his songs was my favorite. ( I do have them all). But I’m sitting here now humming Sitting in the Park. I loved Reap what you sow, Strange Feeling, Fat Boy, Summertime,Cross my Heart. I gotta stop here😊 Yes I’m sitting right here waiting for you my dear wondering if you ever gonna show up. Sitting here on the bench wit my back against the fence. I don’t know if ur gonna show, my darling I gots to go but nevertheless is sit you got ta me waiting ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
