The SADDEST WIN in Super Bowl HISTORY | Garo Yepremian (Super Bowl VIII)

At Super Bowl VIII against the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian should have been celebrating after his team won their second straight title, and after he played well. Instead, January 13, 1974, was one of the worst days of his life, because during the game, he got word of unspeakable news that made the title feel insignificant by comparison. This is the story behind the saddest win in the history of the Super Bowl
NOTE: I made a mistake in the video where I accidentally flip-flopped the number of field goals and extra points he made. He had 6 points (1 FG and 3 XPs), not 10 (which would’ve been 3 FGs and 1 XP)

Garo was a popular player in the Miami area in those days. He had a side business selling colorful neck ties, which kind of matched his personality. The botched FG eventually became one for the blooper highlite reels and we laughed about it. I did not know the sad story after Super Bowl VIII. Garo was a tough little guy who proved himself in a league surrounded by giants.

What an incredibly moving, heart-felt, and well reported story by you. If people ever want to know what makes the Jaguargator9 KZbin channel unique over all other football channels, this video is exactly why. Tremendous job addressing raw emotions and a real human interest story of championship and then experiencing what was such a frightening/painfully sad moment immediately following the Super Bowl. Truly well done video by you--Great job.

Lol, you wouldn't happen to be JG's dad, would you? You're among the first to comment on each and every video, and it's always glowing praise. I mean, his content is well presented, but it's just amusing to see dozens and dozens of adoring comments from the same person.

@@MattePurple1 JG spins A LOT of fictional stories.Have you ever noticed how NONE of his 'stories" reference ANY source or sources? Maybe his next 10-15 minute long "untold story" will be about a young Linebacker who played briefly for the Oakland Raiders ( 1970-71) and for the CFL's BC Lions (1971-73) in the early '70's who also had aspirations of becoming an actor who was unceremoniously cut by John Madden after he played in his only game for the Raiders during the 1971 season for violating Rule #1 of Madden's 3 rules, "Be on time". Madden coached the Linebackers for the Raiders before Al Davis tapped him to be their Head Coach in 1969. After a late season home loss to the Baltimore Colts, Madden scheduled a Monday morning meeting with his corps of Linebackers who had been a major reason why the Colts rushing attack gained 210 yards, averaging almost 5 and a half yards per carry, conspicuously absent from the meeting was LB Carl Weathers, yes, THAT Carl Weathers! His excuse for missing the meeting didn't sit well with Madden after he explained, "Coach, I was on the phone with my agent discussing a very important audition." that prompted Madden to put his hand up and interrupt Weathers, "STOP! Now get the hell outa here, you're done"! Carl Weathers actually did play in a handful of regular season games (8) for the Raiders in 1970-71 and can be verified, the rest is fiction just like so much of JG's content.

@@davidcobb2693 Haha, nice one. Now that you bring it up, I may have started to notice a few inconsistencies. I'm a new viewer, and I've binged a lot of his videos back-to-back, so those inconsistencies stand out more easily. I don't feel comfortable just yet accusing him of completely fabricating a story, but I have noticed a few factual errors; the most egregious so far being some of his assertions regarding the LifeMinders SB commercial. You're right, though, it would be good for him to include some citations, at least in the information box. (I should note: I did find a 1974 NYT article, "Yepremian Gets More Good News," that verifies the subject of this video.)

As someone who accidentally became aware thru a vlogger about infant loss and the effects on the parents and what might amount to shunning from others I have to say I truly appreciate this video. Even today parents who miiscarry y or have stillbirths face all sorts of problems besides just dealing with the loss of the baby they they have to deal with the flat out indifference and even cruelty of others. 10:57 "he would never truly get to experience what is what like to be a champion"- it does not even compare to being a loving husband and father. That's a true champion, not of sports but of life. There is also the case of Vikings quarterback Frank Tarkenton. After a 12-2 1975 season, the Vikings lost to the Cowboys in the playoffs on Roger Stuabach's infamous hail mary pass. Then Tarkenton was hit with the news that his father had died of a heart attack while watching the game.

I mean, not getting to _celebrate_ the win sucks, don't get me wrong, but he was still a two-time Super Bowl winner nonetheless. And, while not being able to participate in the victory celebrations immediately afterwards is a real bummer, it doesn't diminish the accomplishment. Most importantly of all, it was thankfully a false alarm and Garo & Maritza went on to have Garo, Jr. as well as another son(Azad) - both of whom, in turn, also gave them several grandchildren. As both a father and someone who previously lost a child due to miscarriage, I can certainly imagine what Garo must have been feeling when he was(mistakenly) informed that Maritza had lost another child. But I can also confidently say that, once Garo learned that his child was OK(and esp once that child was actually born healthy), I'm pretty certain that Garo, by comparison, probably didn't care _all that much_ in retrospect about having missed out on a couple of parties. IMO, he got to hoist a much better trophy instead.

Three things plus a suggestion. 1. The first time the 1972 Dolphins played no team that made the playoffs that season. 2. Garo is considered a boon for what happened in Super Bowl 7, but the real mistake is by the left side of protection allowing the kick to be blocked. 3. My uncle, Ray Schoenke #62 at 3:34, is on the sidelines in the upper left corner of the video. A suggestion! Do a video on the on the last game of the 1967 Colts, the only team to finish with the best record, yet not go to the playoffs. Tell the story about how they went undefeated to the last game of the year and how, just five years later, the same scenario, with the same two coaches, in the same stadium would happen again. upper left corner on the

You know what the saddest part of that win truly was, that it was manipulated for them to win. You see the Dolphins got to practice in a new college stadium the week prior to the game, the Vikings were sent off to an hour drive to a dilapidated high school that didn't even have a locker room. It was so bad that the Vikings couldn't even practice the week prior, but the Dolphins could. Bud Grant the Vikings coach protested but it fell on deaf ears.

So, the baby was eventually born and was ok, is that correct? If so, I don’t see why you call this an “unspeakable tragedy.” A scare, certainly, but nothing tragic in the final result.

FG kicking today is guided by magnets. They can make the kick good or make it miss. Balls be swerving all over the place in the air, zig zagging like crazy. Totally fake ass sport today.
