NGL. I got the impression that Kat was infected there at the end. Like the psycho doctor's shot was finally taking affect. She was drooling profusely and laughing hysterically as she ascended the stairs to the roof. Then again, the military, or whoever they were, gunning down an asymptomatic carrier/potential source of a cure is equally eff'd up.
@ZenMonkeyGod2 жыл бұрын
I think it was meant to be ambiguous if she was infected or not. I mean, she just heard the love of her life say he wants to murder her brutally, so she either had a mental breakdown or that was what triggered the infection. Either way, she still ran up there knowing she'd be shot.

The plot of this film reminds me of the "Crossed" comics where the infected does all kinds of depraved acts on the uninfected. The only difference is that the Crossed infected has a red rash across their face like a crucifix. Hence, "crossed."

Mmmhn... I have to be honest with this and point out that Kat is absolutely expressionless in the entire movie, it's more disturbing when she forces emotion when she feels none, I respect actors and actresses, of course, but I have to say, without having seen any other work of this specific actress I can see it was too much of a role for her, but so for the "Jim" character as well, both in my absolute individual opinion, lacked likeability, didn't feel a thing for any of them IN FACT I felt way more for poor Molly with her very short screenplay than for the supposed protagonists. I dare say, the actress that interpreted Molly was more able to stroke the heart in less time by sheer talent. Anyway at least it was entertaining even with its somewhat self-censoring. I give it 3 potatoes out of 5. At least I enjoyed it and my popcorn. Cheers! Also Thank the raptor G-sus that you came back my dude, excellent vid!

I think the most terrifying thing about infected people in this movie is that logically, the virus or disease still keeps the souls of humans that it affects. It doesn't seem to kill. If you look at other movies and series about zombies there's usually a death moment for the living, usually shown in such excruciating manner, and then it becomes a dead body, but then the dead body comes back to life as the undead. So there is some phases. However, this movie depicts it differently, they just changed without cue. Some even can be manipulative enough to hide their transformation just like during the end. Like Dr. Wang, Jim, and even Kat herself (I said "even" because it is quite obviously implied that she might be immune). Also, other materials usually portray strong people that are infected to be a more dangerous zombie because they are usually bigger, enhanced to be stronger, probably runs faster as well. But still, they're not any wicked than the rest. From what we saw in this movie, that is simply not the case, because intelligence remains. Therefore hear me out, imagine a professional army veterans, or John-Wick-type-of-a-guy becomes infected, can you imagine how vicious he would be? Although if he was naturally kind, but forced to be trapped, inside a physical body that no longer knows anything but violence? The world would literally be a living hell. The limit of cruelty and brutality won't even be enough to describe it, as people would be as despicable as actual devils. Pretty thought provoking I'd say. Make you think if violence is truly rooted in our primal instinct even as modern humans. Now I'm wondering why this movie hasn't get the level of recognition to the alikes of "Train To Busan", for example. Because among other projects with similar ideas, I think this concept is definitely fresher. Albeit darker too.
@OtonHenki Жыл бұрын
There are phases for the Alvin virus as well. The first phase being infection without the activation of the virus (as seen in the neighbour's flu-like symptoms at the beginning), and the second one being the turned phase, when they start behaving like bloodthirsty psychos. The trigger from the first phase to the second seems to be an intense feeling of sadness (hence the name of the movie). For example, a tear is seen rolling down the train stabber's cheek before he turns, the general turns after becoming sad from realizing how many people have become infected, Jim turns after becoming worried for Kat's safety, and Kat turns as she realizes that her husband is no longer the person he once was. I can imagine most people turning right away, as they become panicked by the intense sadism of the ones already turned. So, not only do you need to have the virus itself enter your body, but you also trigger it by emotions of sorrow.
@woozema2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's lacking internal conflict. A good fix would be is to have Kat stressed out at her office job, being overworked and underpaid, getting harassed by her male colleagues, and having all her efforts undermined by her boss. I guess a good twist is to have her turn out to be a psychopath, explaining her immunity, lack of emotion, and efficiency at killing. Also fits with what the businessman said. As for Jim, he has to work odd jobs like delivering lunch to people since he didn't go to university and doesn't want a girl like Kat to leave him. That's why by the time of the outbreak, he's at the other side of the city and has to go back to the same route, meeting his former clients that are now turned, which breaks him. Could've used an extra 10-15 minutes to flesh it out.

As for OPs point I thought it was perfect as it was. You can tell he loved her because she remained the main focus of his life, he still came to the hospital to find her. It would be ludicrous imo if he, while not being immune, could demonstrate resistance to the virus merely because of young love. It would not be consistent with the hopelessness of the movie

Here is the thing, I think the movie's name in Mandarin is even more intentional. "Ku Bei" meaning crying sadness sounds very similar to the phrase "Kao Bei" which is a common exclamation that basically means "Damn It", which could refer to the audience's reaction to seeing the ending that built up a possible cure that was squandered, leading to a "God Damn It, you were this close and now its all fuked" or "Kao Bei!"

I like how you covered this movie. I was interested in the story, but couldn't handle the rather graphic s. assault scenes. You managed to show and tell the story while only mentioning those scenes.

Yeah the director actually is surprisingly critical of the final product. Believing that he made the movie so stream line. That it couldn’t be too fleshed out as he would have liked. Gotta respect the man for being humble. I was scared he’d be arrogant like tom six or the Serbian film director.

I think this is a reference to the comic "Crossed" where infected became crazy, doing tons of violence any human could've imagine. You should read it it's pretty entertaining

Just found out that this will be on Shudder in the States on May 12th. I'll probably give it a watch to get the full uncensored effect.

I believe the movie should have been titled "Happiness" because the main character expresses a sense of joy and fulfillment after being infected, finding a newfound purpose in life.

This is just gratuitous violence/disturbing. That's not scary or interesting to me. Definitely seen enough by watching your video lol

The gore in this film grossed me out, not to mention what happened at the Hospital. I actually dislike this film but still gonna watch your score/recap. Asian horror movies are just the freakiest!

Recently watched this movie. Actually very good. Similar to 28 days later in terms of story, but much much more gory and disturbing

Some people might think the story and characters are simple but for what the movie was trying to be, It was absolutely amazing. Definitely the most disturbing virus movie out there

I’d say it deserves a much higher scare score, especially watching it as a woman, the film inputs a lot of “sexual gore” and does a great job at making me uncomfortable. It get’s you thinking on what humans are truly capable of doing to each other.

I’ve been a horror fanatic my whole life. So is the rest of my family. Yes, I’ve seen some messed up movies. But this one is at the top of the list. With the gore, the other messed up stuff just made it my favorite. I hope this reaches the correct audience.

I really like horror movies too and I've seen some very disturbing movies, but for some reason I couldn't stomach this one. Maybe because I was the only person in to movie theater and the sound was way too loud it hurt my ears. The most disturbing thing for me is that the zombies are smiling and laughing hysterically, which isn't something you see very often. However I do feel the violence is a bit over the top as some special effects are so gory it almost becomes ridiculous. And I'm not even going to mention the sexual violence which is questionable. Again, the movie was meant to be shocking and I think it worked pretty well
