The regular game has been so much better since Safer Seas opened. With these people who had no interest in the core PvPvE gameplay removed from the equation, every interaction I've had has felt much better. People generally want to fight rather than run when contesting a World Event, the Skull of Siren Song, etc. and Alliances tend to hold together better when they do form (presumably because it's a greater risk to doublecross competent crews). It might also be pure coincidence, but my communications with rival crews have been way more sporting too. Less slur and swear-slinging, a lot more GGs.

2 months later and I've seen the opposite now. Most people don't want to pick fights unless it's on very specific servers where for some reason suddenly everyone is doing a 4 Reaper ship free for all. Brigantine chasing a sloop while being chased by another sloop which is being followed by yet another sloop.

Might I invite you to a trip back in time, to the prehistoric times of 1995, when we didn't have the sort of internet required to make multiplayer games that weren't played in the same room, and game developers had to put some effort into the difficulty of their games and not rely on PvP being the main draw in lieu of programming and designing an engaging game that presented challenges. I don't think it's a lost art by any means, indeed there are a glut of great single-player games. For plenty of people who haven't been playing since launch, the PvE offers a perfectly reasonable challenge, and the PvE servers are a good way to get familiar with and master the game mechanics through the PvE and then, if they want, dip their toes in PvP. Hell, I have a friend whose first experience (pre-safer seas) was soured by some toxic sweats within his first hour of play, who I am bringing back to the game through crew play on safer seas to go do some of the things that made me love the game. And I think that if Rare could make an incentive program for a mentor/mentee matchmaking system like that for safer seas somehow (maybe take people vetted from the insider community?) it would make for a great extended tutorial and way to make players invested enough to want to PvP. It took me hundreds of hours to get to the point that trying PvP was a thing I even wanted to do, and I'm still not the best at it, but I can hold my own in a lot of situations. I realize that "we" didn't have this, but it was a fundamentally different game then. There is a much larger skill gap now than could have ever existed. The top tier of PvP sweats have 6 years of a head start over the newest batch of Swabbies in developing all of the skills needed to thrive in the sea of thieves. A sandbox where they can do things like circle an island to practice cannon shots is a useful tool to them. Sea of Thieves has the big problem that it can't be what it wants to be all at once. It wants to be open and inclusive, but also wants to let people do what they want. But if you let *anyone* do *anything* they want with no consequences, the result is a toxic culture that creates a destructive feedback loop where the toxic players only get more toxic and more dominant in the game, and the people who are repulsed by that toxicity leave (and I'm not calling all PvP toxic, but it does tend to attract the more toxic people in most communities, because for those people it isn't fun to trash talk a computer, it is only fun if another human being has their day ruined VIA their actions.) There has to be a balance, and IMO a co-op only mode is a good first step there.

@@captainshelf7 IDK getting spawn camped by a galley as a solo player just isn't my cup of tea most of the time. Don't get me wrong I love the ship combat but hate the sword and gun play. It feels so janky compared to the seamless ship battles. That and just being able to explore the map without worrying about to much is actually pretty damn peaceful coming home from a 10 hour shift. If I wanted to get shafted by kids who just throw slurs around all day I'd just go play cod again but I haven't touched that fortnite sim in years. Better yet I'd just go play Rust for 5 mins

The individuals I've seen hate on PvE players have turned out to be the most elitist, pretentious, singleminded, and cartoonishly dickish bullies in all of gaming. It astounds me everytime a Hardcore PvPer says "Getting Good" is possible when your sloop is being powder kegged while you're on the complete opposite side of an island. No matter how good you are, you can't defend your ship, which is basically an extension of yourself, if you're fighting skeletons in a cave somewhere.

I've had this game for almost a week, and only play High Seas strictly for the increased XP gain to get to pirate legend. I've never really been interested in PvP and typically don't bother with it, since typically it's me against 2-4 other players. A 1v1 is fun, but usually it isn't that, and even when I have no loot on my ship (sometimes when I'm done farming I just sail around with no supplies or loot so someone wastes time sinking me) people still typically jump to the sinking option. Thankfully, I don't have to worry much since I typically avoid players easily enough. And for those who say "just get discord and make a group", I don't like people. Good at talking to them when I do, but not fond of doing so. Especially when grinding levels. I just want alone time, a podcast for me to listen to, and the occasional clatter of bones from a slain skeleton. Safer Seas is perfect for Tall Tales or trying to teach my fiancé the basics so she doesn't drop the game outright

My complaints are it sucks we can't use Captained/Guild Ships (literally no-one cares about other players' ship milestones or guild distinctions) and the nerf to Gold and Rep is too extreme as Gold and Rep are worthless anyway and while I appreciate the nerf is to encourage High Sea play it also make Safer Seas pointless for the players who intended to make the primary way to play or just have time away from the community's toxicity. Imagine being a disabled player who bought SoT because they added Safer Seas so they can play without getting mercilessly ganked by PvP players only to be told "lol, you only get 30% gold and rep is capped. Suffer like the rest."

This video aged like already expired milk. Because now that it’s live, there’s a *SO* much limitations than there is freedom. Only good things is Tall Tales and no players looking to sink your ship, basic voyages, little commendations to be earned while 80 or 90% has to be earned in High Seas, level cap to the 3 basic companies is capped at 40 and to be Pirate Legend, you gotta be 50 even though the main goal of the game during launch was to become Pirate Legend to do those Pirate Legend voyages. Sea Forts and the new Skeleton ships. And when you don’t wanna do any of that and just chill. You can either sail around and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the game and fish. No Reaper Faction. No Fort Of The Damned, no Siren Songs even though those two events are mainly PvE events. Siren Song only becomes PvP if other players are also doing the event. Skeleton Forts also becomes PvP if you’re at one and another player is going towards it and they see your shipped already docked at the small fort. The rewards is cut to 30% but I don’t care about that. I don’t care about Reaper faction and I don’t care about the new Burning Blade ship.

Tbf it’s actually been a lot better with losers like you gone. Everyone wants to fight now and the game functions more as it was originally designed to. It’s a win for both camps. Interactions on the seas are not only more competitive on average but also less toxic. Loot stacking is more common due to most of the pve players left being at least intermmediate in skill which leads to better steals. It’s healthy for both sides of the gameplay loop to let swabbies like yourself learn and thrive in their own closed environment. All you were gonna do anyways is waste an hour of both our time just to sink and donate your loot anyways. Especially with the Red Sea changes that make catching you basically inevitable with some determination. Trust me we’d all prefer you don’t return to the highs seas lmao.

Safer Seas was introduced to the game to serve as an extended tutorial for players to get to understand the game's mechanics and get an idea of how to handle naval and hand-to-hand combat. High Seas is, always was and always will be the main game mode as the game is intended to be played. You're supposed to lose sometimes, there is no fun in always coming out on top with ease. If you want to continue playing Safer Seas indefinitely, I don't have a problem with that personally. If you're going to be all smug about it and label all High Seas players as toxic griefers looking to get their power fantasy off, yeah I'm going to have something to say about that. Complaining and moping about how you're never going to win anyway is a self-defeating mindset that isn't going to get you anywhere. The best thing you can do about it is to practise your own skills and give your opponent a proper fight, that way you'll have some fun even if you don't end up winning. There's no fun in winning all the time if losing isn't on the table, that's what makes the PvP so much fun in this game. Safer seas shouldnt have existed in the first place. I get pve players hate having their shit stolen but complaining about having your loot stolen in a pirate game is like complaining about how your food is too hot or overcooked when you purposefully leave it in the oven for longer. But no one asked for safer seas, and they expect pve players to just go there for an entirely pve experience, alienating a huge section of the playerbase in the PvPvE game. PS: im a pve player but im not afraid of pvp and never will be. i just like being devious
