Also can we take a moment to talk about how oddly random the criteria seem to be for defining "small" vs "midsize" SUVs? The Hyundai Ionic 5 and Subaru Forester are almost exactly the same size as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and BMW X3, and actually have more interior space, but are for some reason considered "small"? and the Ford Explorer Electric is almost a full foot shorter than both the Ionic and Forrester, and a bit narrower/lower, but is somehow midsize?

@@AIRDRACyeah, the sizes are messed up but they do what they are given. The Toyota Crown is considered a large car on their site when the Accord is longer than it and considered midsized. They need to order the SUV’s based on length or rows and or combined interior volume.

Companies are cost cutting with touch panels. They are not safe to use on the road, especially when some features require navigating mulltiple nested levels. IIHS should deduct safety points based on the distraction. Also, companies are adding electric doors. In case of total power failure, doors with electric locking system are very difficult to open (ex. In case of flash flooding). People are dying because they cannot getnout of their own vehicle. Many were burnt to death just in 2024. IIHS should also deduct points based on emergency features.

So… does Volvo not provide cars for these tests? Even the smallest Volvo XC40 feels like a tank by comparison to a CRV, a Tucson, etc. Anybody who’s driven an Integra or Civic will tell you they feel like soda cans.

@@bruceknows How it feels doesn't necessarily represent how it performs in practice. Especially in side impact collisions with unyielding stationary objects (e.g. light poles, trees, or bridge pillars), a heavier "safer feeling" vehicle will typically fare worse, because its higher weight will cause it to deform more, increasing the risk of the occupants actually impacting the object directly. Volvo generally make safe cars, but feeling "bulky" doesn't make it safe, just heavy.
