I think the extra free agent money is net negative for teams like the Bears that were already cap solvent. It just lets more teams participate

Thanks so much for these offseason pods!!

2 cheers to Rob for his analogies: 1] An NFL QB analyzing pocket pressure is like you or I driving a car during a lane change. 2] The 2024 NFL salary cap being announced $13M over expected is like us getting our tax return with an extra few thousand dollars. Chef's kiss, my friend.

What I’ve heard is that teams really did expect this rise in the cap with the exception of 2-3 million max. The increase is always helpful to all the teams.

Why do you guys discuss paying Justin to be $40m? He is paid $6m this year, $25m the next year with the option, and then like $45m on the tag. That’s the framework for a 3 year deal being about $25m per year.

Sione Vaki is a phenomenal athlete and is so much fun to watch, but he doesn't cover very well. Funny quick story, was Mike Renner [formerly PFF] received a DM from Vaki's alleged high school coach, saying that Sione Vaki's best position is actually slot receiver. lol That caught me way off guard.

Nick, calm down. We don't need to trade up. Think WR Roman Wilson later in the draft

No moving up for those three receivers!

9 of 10 rookie qbs dont win anything in yr 1. Poles should trade down and or draft MHJ who could potentially make DJ a wr2 in a cpl yrs and get another 2 wrs via fa/later rounds and for the love of god get him a center that doesnt suck and my money is on playoffs next yr with rookie qb starting we wont win 5 games unless we have a 2006 type defensive season that won most every game that year. I wouldnt be mad if they grab the Michigan kid with 2nd pick at 9 for now who knows under Jimmy hes tough and smart for sure. competition is good imo

Rob, you seem to really dislike Bagent. I get it. I've been a Bears fan for 17 years. And in all 17 of those years the best player on the roster has always been the backup QB. It's the most annoying noise I have to hear every single year and I hate it. That said, it is a bias against those backups and it's not really fair to them. Tyson isn't a good option as a STARTING QB, but I think he's got every single tool, especially the mental stuff, to be a good quality bu. Way better than Peterson. He's a DIY QB from division 2 who forced himself onto an NFL roster and had the gall to win 2 games in his rookie season. Doing so while looking like an actual bu QB instead of a liability. Think about the type of person that takes. How difficult and frightening it is trying to make a blind leap into a new venture. Then imagine that venture is one of the most difficult projects in one of the most difficult industries on the planet where millions of people watch your performance every week and discuss it ad nauseum. Then imagine doing that without any help other than what you can find on the cheap or a free video online. All while going up against guys with way more experience than you in the industry you're trying to squeeze your way into. Guys who've had access to some of the best teachers and mentors on the planet. I'm a new author trying to do the same thing in a saturated industry. It's terrifying and isn't easy. And what I'm doing is much easier than the absolutely insane path Tyson decided to take. That's the kind of thing that just doesn't happen. People don't do that and succeed. Even if that success is only as limited as Tyson actually managed last year. I think that's the kind of guy you want as a backup, and, quite frankly, the type of mindset you want rubbing off on your #1 overall pick. JMHO.

Hey JA! I can't remember exactly what I said on this show, but I like Bagent quite a bit -- I just didn't think Poles was willing to keep Tyson on the roster as opposed to a veteran backup! The list of UDFAs that have won multiple games as an NFL Starter is a short list and Tyson is on it. He's come a LONG way and I imagine he can get even better. But especially this time last month, QB discussion was full of constant hiccups and potholes as you couldn't discuss liking Tyson without making it about Fields in some form or fashion. I like TB17 quite a bit as a backup and look forward to seeing his growth

@@RobertSchmitzNFL yeah, those convos were ridiculous. It was impossible to have a nuanced conversation because the moment you said you liked what Tyson showed, you were accused of saying he's better than a QB who will not be mentioned for the sake of everyone's sanity. Now, me personally, I like Tyson's down-by-down brand of football. But I'm a Bears fan. I had to learn to love watching backup QBs. I jest, but I do hope they have the fortitude to keep Tyson. Having two young, hope inspiring QBs would be nice. Because, again, Bears fan. Hope is all that sustains me. Gonna need as much of it as I can get.
