Actually, the little tassels on the drapery tiebacks play off of the tasseled trim on the solid-colored drapes. The little tassels also help define the large tassels. You may not be a fan of them, but they do catch the light, nicely. Helps draw attention to the large tassels. That gold drapery is magnificent! Very good choice! Your room is so beautiful!

I'm in 5th year of architecture, all we learn is how to make things easier, plainer, simpler, "less is more" is a phrase i heard lots of times in uni, watching you making the most elaborate and detailed curtains I've seen makes me so happy, i love to see how we can still put a lot of work in something that could've been resolved in a simpler way, but wouldn't look as astonishingly beautiful as it ended up looking. Keep it up carole, the salon is looking amazing, Versailles is afraid of la ferte at this point. And yes, the little tasselsmake a lot of sense for me, it brings it all together

The problem with architecture school is that “people” in general love the intricate details. The reason antique furniture has so much value. Yes there are styles that are beautiful and simple but watching museums the ohh & ahh’s come from the intricate details.

Less is not more. Just cheaper, more neutral and without character so that it sells easily. You see, I've been through engineering school myself and I know what I'm talking about... Carol, keep the little tassels, please!

@@beverlysnow9315 Just so!! More used to actually mean more ...but it was always balanced and in proportion to the size and importance of the occasion. Elaborate, ornate, refined & detailed are all apt descriptions of Versailles & 17-18th century France 😆☺😂

The drapes are exquisite, and so gorgeous in that room! Because of the details all throughout the room, and Because of the tassels on the inner drapes, I say leave the little tassels on the bigger tassels! Ordinarily it might look like overkill, but with the size of the room, and ornate details in the woodworking and wallpaper and drapes, they just seem to belong, balancing the tassels on the drapes. The tassel without them just seems to be missing something!

The curtains are a work of art, and the hand work of sewing the trim makes the project so special and personal. I would suggest living with the small tassels on the large ones for a while to see if you really want to cut them off. I say they shout Carol and I love the little extra detail they give the tie-backs. It's all about the details! You gave me the motivation to go into my sewing room and finish a project today on this cold Midwest USA winter day. (No gloves though).

The inner curtain definitely looks better with the tiny tassels as it coordinates better with gold print curtains and it’s tasseled tie backs. This is an elegant room. The wallpaper is quite subtle and making the curtains shine is a must. It ties in with all the gold leaf you have done. This is not a modern room and simplicity was not in the past.

It’s funny, at the beginning, I actually liked the little tassels on the larger tassels that you proposed to hide. However, once you hid them I agree that they look more elegant without the tiny tassels. Those drapes are absolutely magnificent and majestic and oddly enough, I like them without the tassels trimmings going up and down on the back golden curtains. They look fabulous as is but, of course, it’s just my taste. They will look great no matter what. You have done the most incredible work in that room. Yes, be proud of yourself for the most arduous reconstruction of the moldings and the choice of wall paper. At this point, I cannot imagine your furniture choices but I trust that you will continue to make the right choices. Fabulous!!!!!!

Congratulations on completing your curtains. They look quite spectacular! The question of the tassels on the holdbacks really is a question of personal preference, but I think leaving them on is the way to go. They create just another layer of detail to a room full of details. With all your gilded mouldings, the plain tiebacks get lost, whereas keeping the tassels in place just gives it that little "je ne sais quoi"! Wishing you all the best from western Canada!

Beautiful job on the curtains! Love everything about them❤ I was thinking you might want to keep the curtains closest to the window up even in the summer to protect the inside curtains from deteriorating in the sun. I think the small tassels should stay. They mirror and balance the tassel edge on the gold draperies. When you consider the complexity of the rest of the room, the extra detail on the big tassels isn’t cloying. If the room was plain Jane, the small tassels would stand out. Imagine a dress of Marie Antoinette’s’. She wouldn’t shy away from extra trim lol. I think it’s all delightfully over the top and stunning

Hi, I don’t think I’ve ever left a comment but today I will. I love watching your projects “blossom”. You each have the joy of pretty much doing what you like best. It seems that one can’t or doesn’t want to do a job so the other steps in. You both have spent hours and hours on your projects, beautiful. I love the way you two are with one another. I’m sure you have your bad days but I don’t see it. I love going shopping with you both. I’ll probably never get to go to France so I have to live vicariously through my favorite utubers such as you. The floors are coming right along. They are beautiful in every way and you’ve got a great mind for the mathematics and getting the “old and the “new” piece fitting so well. A standing ovation is warranted! The draperies are beautiful, along with all the gold leaf you’ve done. Sometimes I think you should do more of it but really you have to stop somewhere. I was a seamstress for over 30 years and had a simple old Singer, a little bit newer Singer, and a very simple overlock machines. The three machines served me well over all the years of sewing for others from a repair, alteration to brides made dresses & bridal gowns. It had got so crazy that I had to say one bridal gown per year for me because of all the time it took to make some of them. I did all the hand sewing for beads, sequins lace, really whatever the bride wanted. My heart was into the home decor because by the time I finished a set of brides maids dresses I was sick of that color. Home decor is different. So having said all this I just wanted to say throughout my sewing career I never once had a welt (cording) foot. The only special foot I had was a walking foot which helps the top fabric move equally with the bottom fabric where there are feed dogs to make the lower fabric move. When it came to welt half the time I made my own and used a zipper foot to make it and also to sew it on. If you have an adjustable zipper foot then you can get the needle right up there where you want it with the foot far enough away that it keeps the trim where you want it but still allows the needle to be up close. When I finally figured this out then I had to find out why I kept breaking needles-you cannot push and especially pull the fabric as you go because the thread is attached to both the fabric and through the eye of the needle and the tip will bend a bit because of the push or pull and the next time the needle comes down it hits metal. I personally have never used welt feet except at one place I worked at which had the 1/4 and 1/2 horse power machines. There were multiple sizes and at first I missed not having any when I had to sew some welt onto something but I adapted. And can I say one thing more without overwhelming you? No tassels on the tassels. I noticed that my eye went right there first before I saw any thing else such as the beautiful fence

Defiantly live with the little tassels on the big tiebacks until everything is done and the furniture is in. My first reaction was they should go but when you got the tassels on the solid curtains I felt they tied it all together. When you get furniture carpets and accessories in they may just tie in with other tassels and trims on pillows and such. The curtains are going to look wonderful puddled on the beautiful floor. This elegant room is a real labor of love.

The tassel trim on the curtains and the tiebacks with the little tassels add just the right amount of chic detail to the draperies and the curtains. With all the detail in the room and all the gold leaf was so expertly done by you, in this case, more is more and so much better. Everything reflects on the next layer from the wainscotting, picture framing around the wallpaper, and the fabulous chandelier. Without any furniture, it's a "Ballroom". but with furniture, it will truly be a "Grand Salon" worthy of Chateau de La Ferte and a showplace of both your work and talent. Thank you, Carole and Adrian, Mark

The Drapes are just Scrumptious!, Delicious and to die for! Leave the little tassels they are an added "Fabulous Feature", We can see from our prospective that in Photos etc they are just a delight! Please reconsider! You are such a fun Vlog to Follow, we love you in Boston!

I’d leave the tassels on your tie backs they match your inner curtains. Love ❤️ your videos. God bless!

You have no idea the impact you have had. Whenever I think a job I’m tackling is hard or will take too much time I call up my memories of you and your salon project. Then I think nothing can match what you have had to do with the gold leafing. I marvel at the wonderful product you have produced. Thank you for a great message and love to you and Adrian from across the big pond. I wish you many years of enjoyment in this restored chateau.

WOW curtains look beautiful. I like the little tassels that are on the larger ones. I would leave them. It brings your eyes right to the tassels and they’re pretty. Plus they kind of match the top curtain.

Everyone said yes to the small tassels. You did an awesome job with the curtains. I give you my respect for it.

With the tassels on the drapes piping the tassels on the big tassels look well coordinated and done on purpose, but in the summer when you only have the designed fabric and not the velvet, then put up a plain tassel...

Beautiful work! Agree that tassels should be cut off.....not a fan of the tassel trim on the gold panels PLUS they will get the bulk of the heat and sun and deteriorate faster than the draperies. The simple gold cording is classic and timeless! Well done!

After Carol put the tassels on the back curtains the tassels on top of the tiebacks makes sense and I could see not clipping them off if she would not have put the tassels on the inner curtain then I’m definitely with clipping them off

Carole, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching you sewing the curtains-- it reminded me so much of watching my Mom sew, as she, too, was so detail-oriented and particular. I treasure the sewn items that I have that she made for me (including some curtains!). I lost her a little over 2 years ago, and watching you today was such a treat. As for the mini-tassels, I vote for them staying-- after all, with a chateau, more is more! Keep up the wonderful work, and thank you for sharing your journey with us. I so look forward to your weekly updates. ☺

I agree completely with Teresa! The small tassels tie in with the tassel fringe on the curtain. Definitely keep them. It makes a more complete look. The curtains do look lovely! And are one more thing adding to the grandeur of your salon! Regards, Charlie

Carole, my mother owned a drapery business in her home and if she had a large job I would help her in it on my days off from my job. I would come home from helping her and be bone tired and could barely move when I went to get out of the car. I would take over the counter pain meds on my drive home because the ache would begin to settle in already! She made custom draperies for large homes, businesses, hospitals and even some for The White House when Bill Clinton was President. Mom is 5'2" tall and only weighs 110 pounds! How she lifted massive bolts of drapery fabric and cornice boards 6 days per week is beyond me!!! She only completed 7 yrs of high school and had no Algebra nor Geometry, but she made her own formula and could figure out how many widths and yards of fabric they would need and how many pleats the width of each panel needed to hang exactly how the customer wanted. Of course my favorite thing to do was going through her trash for scrap fabrics, trim and anything of interest! Over the years I've accumulated a lot of items. I'm retired now and finally have my own sewing room and in the process of unboxing all my treasures. Each item is a memory of working with my now 82 y/o mother in her sewing room...that's what I really treasure! Those sweet memories of the two of us...laughing like you and your daughter and making something beautiful! And she made very good money too. If we were younger she and I could move to France and make a good living off of all the chateau owners! LOL!!! Your work is beautiful! And the transformation is unbelievable. Thank you for taking your time and sharing with us. 🇺🇸

I love the overall effect, though I'm indifferent to the vertical tassels. I don't love them or hate them. I prefer the amount of swag on the left side versus the right. Visually, it creates a more graceful diagonal draping effect, that flows from one drape into the next. With the gilded Rococo design of the moldings, parquet flooring, wall, window and floor coverings, to wimp out on a finishing touch like curtain trim, doesn't make sense. If you have a chance, check out the trims in the king's bedroom at Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. They're works of art in gold, silver and silk thread. I think you can get away with anything short of that. Trust your instincts Carol, you've made excellent design choices so far.👍

What a labour of love Carole! The curtains are wonderful. I like the tassels with the little tassels on, not that they look bad either way. Just beautiful.
